TDL 2022

Created by: Super_Randy
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 22, 2022
Published: Jan. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Price is left on LTIR because I do not believe he will be back this season. This puts MTL in PRIME position to capitalize at the TDL for retention on trades to teams that cannot take a player without extra retention. Price on LTIR for the remainder of the season gives MTL $14.0 M in cap space to acquire extra picks by doing the above method.

I don't think MTL does anything too drastic at the TDL and will look to make major moves in the offseason.

Monahan doesn’t make sense as a target for the Habs if they are rebuilding.

Why is Calgary adding to this trade? As I see it, a good comparable for this trade would be the Kuemper trade to Colorado. Montreal is desperate for a quality center, and Monahan can provide that, so I ask again why. Aligarh would be adding in this situation. Anderson has not had a good year, and Evans doesn’t move the needle much, as he seems to be a fringe 3C. While Monahan has not had a good year either, I would still view him as the most valuable asset in this trade. Plus, Anderson’s contract is not a good one, at least with how he has been playing. It would be a bit better if you swap the picks, but I also think the Habs would be able to do better than Evans. Or just swap Evans out with a 3/4 round pick. At that point I think the Flames at least start to consider, but they would probably be able to get a more favorable deal elsewhere.

Canes have no interest in Wideman, and we already tried Pacquette out, and while he was good, his role was easily filled by Martinook, Lorentz, or Stepan this year.

For the Florida and NYR trades, I am pretty sure that they will only go after rentals this TDL, with their cap situation not looking good starting next year.
