Compher is not necessary if he needs AVS. I think it would even be possible to replace Kaut with some other prospect, but I don't know much about your prospects and probably guys like Olauson and Barron wouldn't even be on the table.

Yeah you can basically forget Olausson and Barron from the get go. Compher and Kaut or Compher and the first is maybe closer to fair. Compher would be necessary for the cap balancing although he is by no means a cap dump. The difference between Olofsson and Compher isn't a first, even if it's a late first, plus an NHL ready former first round pick.

But we don't need Compher, it will just reduce the return on the trade if it really has such value. Most of all, we need RDs prospects, this is the most important need. Barron is not on the table, I already knew that. What about Helleson?

For example, here are two options:

    Helleson + 2nd or 3rd

    Kaut/Foudy/Ranta + 1st

Wouldn't work for the Avs. Compher has to be moved to balance cap. Avs decline otherwise, and look elsewhere.

But AVS can just trade Compher to another team for pick. If this at TDL trade, Buffalo could retain 50% of Olofsson's salary and his cap would be 1.5 million, but the price would be more.

They could, but that would likely be bad asset management. Compher could easily be moved in a trade for a player who will help them now somewhere else. He's a useful player and people need to get over the cap dump idea. Compher plus Kaut or another similar prospect or Compher plus the 2023 first I'd MAYBE do. No need for the Avs to give up more.....which probably doesn't make them the best trade partners.

Then yes, probably AVS should be looked for elsewhere. Buffalo shouldn't trade Olofsson cheaply.

I agree they shouldn't trade him cheaply. I just think this isn't cheaply. Solid roster player, plus a first or a prospect who was a first and is NHL ready isn't cheap in my opinion but opinions vary.

Our target prospect + pick or top 4/6 RD, Compher just isn't what we need.

    Poor trade partners then IMHO.

if he keeps it up over 82 games and now is a completely changed player and not just a small sample size of improved play, a 1st kaut and. decent player is an overpayment for him. Its just not worth the assets to give up on.

    That’s all well & good
The way you’ve characterized Olofsson is still wrong
