Ideal deadline trades

Created by: EsoYeezus69
Team: 2021-22 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 23, 2022
Published: Jan. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Teams don’t matter, I’m just using them to represent value given to Dallas. Also the year the pick is in doesn’t matter.

Some of these are probably overpays (the Faksa trade is a major one. I promise I didn’t chose NYI specifically 👀), but it’s ideally not realistically. Some of these probably won’t happen (and some of them just flat out won’t in a million years, example: the Faksa trade), but if they do I’d be truly overjoyed with our deadline.
Trades
1.
DAL
  1. Gunler, Noel [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
CAR
  1. Pavelski, Joe ($3,500,000 retained)
2.
DAL
  1. Hörnqvist, Patric
  2. Luostarinen, Eetu
  3. Samoskevich, Mackie [Reserve List]
  4. 2023 1st round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Giving them cap space=fairly young player with upside
FLA
  1. Klingberg, John ($2,125,000 retained)
3.
DAL
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (WPG)
WSH
  1. Radulov, Alexander ($3,125,000 retained)
4.
DAL
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
5.
DAL
  1. 2022 4th round pick (VAN)
  2. 2023 4th round pick (VAN)
6.
DAL
  1. 2022 1st round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Faksa, Radek
Additional Details:
There’s always that team that majorly overpays for 4th line grit grinders, and Faksa even has bad analytics, but probably just because of the name and reputation Nill gives him, someone could majorly overpay for him (chances of this are almost similar to the Stars winning the cup this season, not impossible, but damm close).

It seems reasonable as a whole, but I think it's more likely that Faksa is traded for a roster player in a change of scenery trade instead of a high-pick.

InB4 Hurricanes fans screaming about how they only make "value trades" and how teams NEVER EVER TRADE 1ST ROUNDERS AT THE DEADLINE.

I like these trades especially the Florida one. I think that could work well for both teams.

True I can see that happening and I wouldn’t mind it, but with all the overpays sucky grit grinders got in the past and probably the future it’s not 100% unrealistic, maybe like 98-99% unrealistic.

That’s why I commented what I commented, the value presented is the key not the team.

I only chose the Canes since Gunler is the type of prospect that I’d really like for Pavs. Plus I generally liked him since his draft-day, when we were on the clock I wanted either JJP (Buffalo), Gunler or Bourque. And we got Bourque.

Well apparently analytically no from what I’ve heard (not too invested in those type of things as others, mainly because I don’t know any sites that provide them, plus for free).

But from what Nill says about him/how he plays him, he’s our top defensive forward.

Yeah I like Gunler too and I think that trade is fair. Despite what people on here say Pavelski (with the type of season he's having) is worth a 1st and a B+/A- prospect. Same goes for Klingberg.

Yeah I'm not an analytics guy, think its lots of overblown nonsense to be honest.. lol

So you watch Dallas all the time, what does your eye test say about Faksa?

I think Klinger will still get higher value since he’s a RD and a lot younger, but Pavs is better and should get close to what Klinger gets.

From what I see his line is always in the defensive zone, but never allows good scoring chances/allows goal scored against. Our other lines are way more in the offensive zone, but when in the defensive zone they get scored on more.

Faksa isn’t your ideal offensive piece (could put up 30/35 points if with a good system and linemates), but defensively he controls the play in the way he wants. Plus he can play a lot of minutes, is gritty and good at checking, has a good lockeroom presence, and is a god at faceoffs.

Has Faksa always been the Stars 3C? His point totals were pretty standard 3C numbers for a few years in a row there but they've dropped off a fair bit the last few years it seems, could be a few factors contributing to that though.

I put him as a scratch just because then he couldn’t play in the NHL and AHL.

Believe me I thought this through, I out of everyone doesn’t want to see him play in the NHL ever again.

I think 3 major factors contributed to Faksa’s recent lack of offensive output.

1. Linemates. He was playing with Comeau and Cogliano for a long enough time, both of which in my opinion are ECHL players who suck (they both gave me brain damage when they played).

2. Coach. Rick Bowness f*cked up almost every players offensive game, including Faksa.

3. His wrist injury. This I think is the main one, Faksa f*cked his wrist pretty bad which made it harder to do anything regarding shooting or passing.

You're still not getting this kind of return from the Canes for Pavelski, so keep liking Gunler while he's a Cane ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
