Fix the caps

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 23, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
How the caps can actually be competitive in playoffs
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
  2. 2023 4th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Vanecek, Vitek
Additional Details:
Edm has inquired about vanecek, vanecek is not good at all and getting some of the value back for him would be a steal.
2.
WSH
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (PIT)
LAK
  1. Schultz, Justin ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Shultz is bad defensively, and hasnt been great offensively this year. But kings need to replace doughty for the playoffs and i think he would fit well.
3.
NYI
  1. Pilon, Garrett
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (WPG)
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
I really dont know sorokins value, but i think this is around it. Islanders probably wont make playoffs and will probably need to rebuild/retool in the offseason, Sorokin is a really good goalie that could very much help the caps.
4.
WSH
  1. Miller, Colin ($1,937,500 retained)
BUF
  1. Jonsson-Fjällby, Axel
  2. Kempný, Michal
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (PIT)
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Caps really need a good defensive defender, miller is that. Also sabres wanted AJF earlier in the year.
Both picks are conditional
the 2023 second can become a 2022 first if caps win the stanley cup with miller playing 75% of the games.
2022 third can become a 2023 second if the caps make it to the third round with miller playing 75% of the games.

I mean they have a good goal tender in varlamov, and they are probably going into a rebuild. I think its a long shot but it could happen if they are low around deadline

Vanecek is good but if they have to move out a goalie I'll take that deal.

LA deal is fine.

That's not even close to the value of Sorokin. He's extremely good and we are a divisional rival, no way NYI trade him to us, and if they do it will cost a lot more than that.

Pass on the BUF deal. Caps need to keep their young prospects and picks. Miller is fine and all but not paying that price for him, especially since we are so deep on the right side.

Islanders aren't going to trade their starting young goaltender to a divisional rival no matter where they are at the trade deadline or in the off-season, and why in the world would you think that the Kings need to "replace Doughty for the playoffs" with a guy you admit isn't as good as he is?

You do know that Sorokin has almost the same value as Shesterkin. He is the second best goalie to come out of Russia in the past 5 years. Isles are not trading a potential superstar goalie.

you can have varlamov, sorokin’s the isles’ goalie of the future and is having an amazing season. no way they move him.

Sorokin probably costs multiple firsts to get the Islanders to move him. Varlamov probably goes for a 2nd plus another 2nd/3rd or decent prospect. If Sorokin only cost that you'd have 31 NHL GMs interested.

You think they would trade Sorokin and keep Varlamov if they were rebuilding? Lol.

If Sorokin is available (he's not), then Edmonton's play would be to drop the Vanecek offer and outbid you for Sorokin. I'd give up more than that for the NYI goalie.

100% agree with this. Sorokin is a top 5 elite goaltender in the NHL (and I'm not bragging) while Varlamov is a 34 year older with another year left on his contract, and he's still pretty good. Isles don't have to move either of them and it would take A LOT to get the Isles to even consider moving a franchise goalie. I'm so tired of people playing LOLIslanders games because "my fanboi team is amazeballs and every other team's stuff is trash until they join myyyyy team."

Isles GM is Lou Lamoriello. He's not going to do a Devon Toews trade unless forced to (cap problems, and Isles had Dobson, Salo, Bolduc, and Wilde in the wings), and there's a reason he's won GM awards.

Caps don't have the pieces- both prospects and draft picks- to even get the Isles to consider moving Sorokin. And they're not making in-division moves unless it favors them bigly.

And even then Edmonton would have to package multiple 1st round picks and prospects to get the Isles attention. They're not moving a franchise goalie without a blockbuster deal, period.

In only 23 games, Doughty has 21 points -- the same number that Jacob Trouba has in 42 games, Filip Hronek has in 40 and Evan Bouchard has in 37, and almost a point a game, which isn't bad for a defenseman.

Schultz has 8 points in 37 games.

Please explain to me how Schultz would be an improvement on Drew.

It's like they forgot that Jani Hakanpaa nearly cut Doughty's leg off earlier in the season and he spent significant time out with that injury.

I think Miller is under rated but that is a lot for Miller.
When do you think Mantha will be back in the line up.
If he is out for the season, please construct a trade which includes Miller and Mantha.
