You would likely be adding a better prospect for Claude, likely Barron

Any trade Colorado makes for a top rental, be it Giroux or Hertl, will cost a better prospect guaranteed

Jack Johnson isn't a cap dump. That being said, we'll take the fourth with no retention - no interest in taking back Johnson, we have young D that will get promoted instead.

In which case the Avs wouldn't make the trade.

They certainly won't be giving up Barron or Olausson, not for a 34 yr old rental.

Then I guess you won’t get a rental of that caliber.

If you aren’t willing to move one of Kaut, Bowers, Olauson, or Barron you aren’t getting Giroux or Hertl. It took a first to get Nick Foligno and both G and Hertl are considerably better

Kaut or Bowers maybe. The other two won't be on the table,

The Avs also don't need one enough to give up those guys.

This seems really fair for Giroux. Philly gets a first, a middle 6 guy that is on a good contract for a couple more years, and a defensive prospect who his ceiling is a Top Pair defenseman in the league but the Avs don’t have room for him. But, I could also see Kaut, Bowers, and almost any other prospect other than Barron and maybe Olauson.
