Miller

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2022
Published: Jan. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Link to Seravelli quote, for those interested: https://twitter.com/Sportsnet650/status/1485777227799089153?s=20
Trades
MIN
  1. Miller, J.T. ($1,500,000 retained)
VAN
  1. Greenway, Jordan
  2. O'Rourke, Ryan
  3. 2022 1st round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Vancouver's choice of Daemon Hunt or Ryan O'Rourke

If what Seravelli said is true then I think this gets beat by other teams, especially since Vancouver doesn't really need a LW, but the only way we can fit Miller is by moving either Fiala or Greenway.

Any chance you see Filip Johansson being a part of a Miller trade? Canucks have a bigger need at RD than LD so just curious what your thoughts are on that.

Seravalli has said the cost is gonna be more than a 1st and high-end prospect plus you want retention which is gonna add to the price. The Canucks also have no need for LDs

I don't have any issue with that personally, but I think O'Rourke and Hunt are much better prospects

Easily beat by other teams. I think if there’s a bidding war, the price might be Lundkvist + Chytil + 1st especially if there’s retention.

I probably do that if I'm the Rangers. I just don't think the Wild have the right pieces to get a deal done

Khusnutdinov could be a good starter but not sure if Vancouver wants a centre. He could be a good centre for Podkolzin in a couple years tho if they somehow trade Horvat for Carlo or something

At this point, Johansson's value to us is the 54th pick in the 2022 draft because it very much sounds like we don't plan on signing him and will be taking the compensatory pick instead. Since I don't believe the rights to that pick would transfer in a trade (CBA talks about a team failing to sign their own first round pick, not just a first round pick), you'd be getting his rights from the trade until June 1st. Take that as you will.

He re-signed with his SHL team about a month ago. It was something like a two year contract.

Furthermore, you only get a compensatory pick if you make a contract offer, a legit one at that, and the guy turns it down. No offer, no pick.

Re-signing with his SHL team doesn't mean much for him signing with the Wild or not. There is a transfer agreement between the league where the NHL contract overrides a SHL contract. The SHL deal just make him have a place to play if MN doesn't offer him a contract. There is still the option of MN giving him a contract and loaning him to his SHL team and letting him develop there instead of the AHL.

I think it would be a mistake for MN to not offer him an ELC. If he turns it down he gets them a 2nd. If he signs then they have a RD prospect; which they are lacking.

I think his price will sting. The only "top prospect" (to me, that's Rossi, Boldy, Addison, Lambos, and Wallstedt) we could afford to give up is probably Lambos. Lambos, a first, and maybe Greenway is a lot. But Miller is also around a PPG since coming to Vancouver and the 3-4 games I've seen of him playing center I've been impressed. I go back and forth, glad I'm not Guerin...

I'd be all over Miller if this was a TDL that was like the Hanzel trade year. Where it was just barren for centers, and he was the best option by a decent margin. I think there are a lot of quality centers that will be available at the TDL this year and a couple of them will end up going for a lot less than this price.

These are trade offers I'd make for Chychrun and he has the term/cap that work well from MN throughout the buyout years.

That's a good point. Miller, Hertl, probably Giroux, possibly Pavelski... that's a lot of really talented centers. Way more than what is typically available at the deadline. Miller is the most appealing to me because of the extra year on his deal. I'd be a lot more reluctant to give up someone like Lambos for just a few months of Hertl, Giroux, or Pavelski.

Chychrun would be really interesting. Very appealing contract, young, and we probably have the pieces to get a deal done. I think our assets are better spent on a center, but I wouldn't be upset if we acquired Chychrun.

It's not just them, players like Stastny could also be available. Ones that would cost a 1st (at least a 2nd+) most years, but should end up as a 2nd this year just due to supply and demand. MN just needs a 2/3C to play with Fiala/Boldy, not a top end 1C.

I've read the CBA section on this so I understand what you're saying. According to Russo in December, we don't need to make an offer. Here's a twitter thread where he explains it. He (and I) had the same belief as you, but was corrected by I assume someone with the league. We get a pick regardless of an offer being made or not.
