At least you are honestly when it comes to Chiarots value. I still think it’s crazy giving a first for him. Definitely wouldn’t do that. But, Edmundson only worth a second? I think his value may be higher.

Guhle stills holds the value of a 1st. Nothing suggests he'd have lost value since the draft.

Not saying he’s is or isn’t worth a first but big physical defence man who just went to the finals and played fantastic in the playoffs, not that crazy to think why teams want him and are willing to part with a first if the rumours are correct.

Good teams also moved firsts like their nothing
Maple leafs for foligno
Tampa for savard and another for goodrow(Blake Coleman was worth his)

Not many Habs fans actually think Chiarot has the value of a 1st, most are just 1. Quoting the pundits and 2. Accounting for teams overpaying at the deadline.

I agree with you, and most teams would give more than a second. I was just shocked. I for one would love to have him on my team! Very good defence man, and very underrated.

Congratulations -- coming from a Habs fan, a completely honest and realistic assessment of player values!! (With the caveats that any dispute about value that differs only one level, or a value does or does not include retention, is well within the margin of error.)

For what it's worth, I'm really impressed.

I'll say it again. Chiarot's value isn't pegged at a 1st because of his stats. He has added value because of the type of player he is, the assumed retention, and because he is the most readily available player of that mold.

His status as a rental is also a bonus in many cases, as teams have their dollars earmarked for next season already, so they can upgrade temporarily without sacrificing cap room long term.

Teams may overpay, but a first is way too much! I’ve seen a lot of habs fans ask for firsts, and think his value is that high. I personally believe he will go to Florida in the end, and they may give you that first, but yah, that’s a lot for him.

I agree I really do, but a first just seems like a lot. That could just be me though… I feel like a team like Florida, or Tampa will pay a first, but I think most will give you a second. He is a good player, I give him that, but with only one year, I can’t think of a team that would give more than a second for him unless like i said, it was Florida or Tampa.

Being worth a 1st rounder doesnt mean anything.

Obviously, the 1st pick overall is worth way more than the 32nd, even if they are both 1st rounders ...

Not understanding this explains why people cant grasp why Chiarot is worth a 1st round pick. The difference in value between the 30th and the 40th isnt signifiant even if they are in different rounds.

Good read on the subject (2015, but still relevant):
