Edmonton Picks up a Top 4 D that they want; Similar to the Keith trade and they also get to dump $4.5M for a goalie with a sub .900 save percentage who has publicly criticized his coach and the team. Can afford the cap space.

Additional Details:

Toronto trades Muzzin while he still has good value and before his contract becomes too much for an aging player. They also trade Mrazek who just hasn't worked in Toronto despite a strong outing his last game. We just don't need a 1B anymore we need a #2. We also pickup ~4M in cap space with this trade and could get more if we sent Koskinen to the minors.

Muzzin doesn't waive for Edmonton, and doubt Edmonton is on Mrzarek's trade list. And no way Oilers can afford Muzzin next season.

Well, that and the leafs would then have Rielly, Muzzin and Sandin on the left side. It only makes sense if they trade Muzzin. But that is unlikely and its more likely they go after someone who can play on the right side.

So Edmonton takes the Leafs overpaid contracts for the next few years (while being in cap hell themselves) while giving back a single bad contract for less than half a season AND pay a 1st to do it. The Oilers already have an injury prone tandem goalie and an aging slowly 2nd pairing D but at least only 1 year left on those contracts. This would really be doubling down.
