The value is great, but I can't see the Habs trading Toffoli with term and retention to the Leafs.

Hawks don't do that deal. Might be fair deal for Toffelli, but the Leafs shouldn't be taking on long term cap, especially for a position which is deep.

Hawks won't even do that if you turn the 4th into a 1st. Hagel has been OUTSTANDING and you'll have him for $1.5M for 3 years and then RFA. Toffoli has 21 points...Hagel has 20. Most Hawks fans think he's the heart and soul of their team right now. If you like Kampf...you'll LOVE Hagel. He's a 100% energy guy every shift.

If you’re selling for the long haul I don’t believe the destination should matter, even if it’s a rival, but we’ll see how Hughes and Gorton approach this. I agree that they would definitely hesitate with trading a good non-rental to them but the value is really good here fr

Just to add. Kampf has been a very pleasant surprise to me. A bargain at 1.5m. Also Bunting, has continued his good play from his half a season in Arizona, and is great value at 950,000

I'm a huge Kampf guy. Always have been. He does all of the work that most people don't appreciate. He's the modern day Marcus Kruger. The ability to have 81.5% Dzone starts, but wins alot at the dot and still manage something like a 49% corsi. That's flipping the ice!

He would get $3M on the open market at this point

To a divisional team like the Sabres or the Panthers or any team not named Bruins or Leafs, I'd agree with you. But the Leafs and the Canadiens haven't traded since pending UFA Plekanec went their way 4 years ago, before that it's the Grabovski trade 14 years ago. They simply don't do business with each other.

If we’re thinking long term, no Toffoli.

We have Knies, Robertson, Amirov, Steeves, and Voit who play LW.

I think of Steeves as a C, but I believe he’s been playing LW with the Marlies.

Thinking long term again, our weakest position is C. But there’s no reason to make a move for a C right now.

The only way I see the Leafs making a big move this year is a RHD.
Otherwise I think it’ll be smaller deals, for added depth.
For the most part at least.

That doesn't get you Hagel. If you're going to dump Ritchie and Holl, you need to make it a first and add a prospect.
