Avs decline, you're not getting both Barron and Newhook for Miller.

Barron + Kaut OR Compher + a 1st should be more than sufficient.

Value-wise, yes and obviously Boeser is an upgrade over Kap, but they don't have the space. VAN would need to retain about $2M.

Pretty much. Nobody ever looks at a team's cap situations. I also don't know that the Pens could afford him next year.

"Should be"? How many trades for 80-point centers at a $2.6M cap hit are you referring to for comparison?

I don't mind retaining if that gets it done. He's an RFA in the summer anyways.

It's a tough one for the Pens. I like the trade personally, but I'm not sure this even works for the Pens moving forward. They may not even be able to spend the $6M pricetag Rust will get, so I don't know this would work with the raise he'll be due. The Pens are in cap-hell next year with having to re-sign Geno, Letang, Rust and others. They will probably have to move Zucker just to keep everything they have currently.

Trust me, I'd like to do this deal.

He has 1.5 years left on his contract. He's effectively a longer-term rental. No rental nets two A-Tier prospects AND a 1st unless we're talking about prime Gretzky. I'm offering an A-Tier prospect, a B-Tier Prospect, and a 1st. Also, $2.6M in dead cap does not affect you guys at all, really, let's be honest. Barron will be an exceptional #1D up with Hughes. Kaut will be able to fill in a middle-6 role. He could play with Horvat, potentially. The 1st will allow you to get another prospect.

What? There’s no shot Van gets the package above for miller but they easily get one of Barton or newhook a 1st and another asset. So not sure how you figure compher and a 1st gets it done

I said Barron would be included. Barron + a choice between Compher or Kaut + a 1st.

Well, this runs the gamut from overly generous to loony-level expensive returns.

Easy no for the Leafs. Motte has no value to them, he'd be their 14th forward(or I guess 13th with Ritchie having been traded). So in exchange for the 1st and a young defenseman who can play NHL minutes, they are receiving a press box player and 2 forwards who probably wouldn't be in the NHL except as covid replacements. There's simply no value here.

Newhook is quite simply not on the table. No disrespect to JTM, but every team has young players/prospects that are more or less untouchable, and Newhook is one of those.

Barron, Ranta, 1st would be in the neighborhood in my opinion, but Vancouver would need to retain. Maybe Compher goes for cap reasons too. But Vancouver gets their RHD plus more and Colorado gets a stud for two Cup runs.

I don't think JTM ends up in Colorado, but I sure do like the fit.
