True, but that doesn’t mean we WANT him
Idk why u can’t seem to understand that??
You’re obviously trying to get rid of him for a reason after all

And we as an organization are clearly trying not to spend a lot of $$$ right now
Just bc he fits under the cap doesn’t mean we wanna spend 2.5mil a year on a player we have no interest in

I understand perfectly what you are getting at, but that doesn't mean I think the organization has quite the same mindset as you have. They still have to keep themselves above the cap floor

Honestly if Stecher wants to go Vancouver I think Yzerman accepts. Detroit maybe can get a 7th for him and the chance of him resigning in Detroit isn't very good. Doing little things like that make Detroit a place that free agents want to go and thats worth more than a 7th rd pick.

This isn't even a 7th round pick. It's future considerations. If it were a 7th I'd say accept. Future consideration is NHL lingo for 'nothing'

No they don't, Stecher has been consistently getting scratched when he's been healthy, he has little to no value

Yes they do. Detroit will be trading away players like Leddy at the deadline. They'll need call up dmen to fill his role. Ideally a veteran NHL defenceman so we don't have to throw one of our young prospect dmen to the wolves before they're ready. A guy like stecher fits the bill, he's currently injured but expected back in March. Detroit's not giving up that insurance on the backend for nothing. Make it a 6th or 7th and sure, but future considerations? No Thanks.

I don't think you understood the point of my post. It's not about the return. Letting a UFA like Stecher walk and go where he wants to go instead of shipping him off to somewhere he doesn't want to go builds good will with free agents and makes Detroit a place they want to go to. That good will is worth more than a 7th rd pick.

Stecher was beat out by Lindstrom and then he broke his wrist and the 6 games he did play were average at best. So his value is maybe a 6th or 7th rd pick. He doesn't have enough value for a team to trade for him just to make sure they get the first chance to sign him. He isn't going to resign in Detroit after the season he has had. He leaves as a UFA when Vancouver has interest in him and he is from the west coast of Canada. So trading him to Vancouver for future considerations is better than letting him walk. That's the kind of thing that players notice and it's how an organization becomes a place where players want to play.
