Sanford, Klingberg , Korpisalo, Mete and Gambrell shouldn’t get contracts from us. Sign Gaudette instead

Why would Ottawa trade Brannstrom for a different LHD? He's been very good for Ottawa, and he's almost certainly not returning a better player in a trade.

Joonas Korpisalo is, without Hyperbole, the single most overrated player in the NHL. Apart from one standout performance (where he still sucked ass in two on his nine games) he's been terrible for the vast majority of his career. That he still has any kind of a reputation as a worthwhile goalie addition is mind boggling. Murray has literally been better the last two years, and you see him as a buyout candidate.

There's no reason for Mete to be back. I've been in his corner for a while, but he's mostly been just awful this season. Sanderson will arrive by season's end, and Mete will move on. I'd also be wary of paying Klingberg 8 mil from age 30-36. Doesn't quite fit the timeline of the rest of the core imo.

Agree with you about most of these, but I'd be more than comfortable with Gambrell back next year. Probably doesn't need to be a full timer, but he's been effective for Ottawa.

First title I thought of was "Version of Panarin/Hamilton" as in signing a player over the age of the rest of the team that will still be good when the team is good.

Made a few edits. Don't know a ton about Ottawa, but what do you think of Brannstrom, Formenton, and Norris contracts?

It's not a terrible idea in theory, it's just that Klingberg is nowhere near as good as either, and is older than either one of them were when they signed.

If it was say 9M (or anywhere above 8) for 4 years or 8.5 for 5 years would you have a different opinion?

Norris is on pace for over 40 goals. There's a pretty good chance he falls off that pace at some point, but he's probably going to sleep his way to 30+ at this point. He's gonna get 7×7 easily, he's a 22 year old 1C.

Formenton and Brannstrom's deals I'm less sure about. Formenton has turned into a monster the last 20 games. Was thinking he would be closer to 2mil, but right now he looks like he's transforming into a 1st/2nd line caliber player, so will be in for a bigger payday. Brannstrom is in a similar position, but with less of a sample size. I'd be willing to take a swing on him at something like 2.5×4 trying to get huge value long term, but I could also see a 1×1 prove it type deal.

If Norris were to take a bridge deal for about 5M (not very smart by Ottawa) how many years do you think it'd be for? 2, 3? Obviously the 7x7 would be better for Ottawa, but Norris may want more money in his career.

If Norris was dead set on a bridge, I go 2 year all day. That said, there's no way Ottawa goes bridge, and I don't think a bridge necessarily makes sense for Norris either. Say he scores just under his current pace, let's say he pots 37 goals, and in around 60 points. I don't think he's gonna look at that season and bank on elevating beyond that over the span of a bridge deal. He would be smarter to just cash in on the huge season he's having, and take his long term deal at 7.5mil or whatever it comes out as
