Pushing Contention down the Road

Created by: TheBoyDuddus
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 26, 2022
Published: Jan. 26, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade that I saw mentioned by an Oilers fan who was as interested in JBD. Moving Brown for Foegele pushes contention a little further down the road but I think Savoie, Bourgault and a 1st more than make up for that… even with having to pick Barrie up. Fingers crossed he could be flipped out later on.

That’s a massive overpayment by Edmonton. Add Paul and Watson and it might come close.

I'm pretty sure Holland said he isn't interested in moving his 1st round pick for Chychrun, why would he move it for this package when the most valuable piece is Connor Brown?

Two things.
1st. Holland didn’t want to send Broberg and Holloway which was Arizonas asking price.
2nd. He said he’s not moving the 1st for a rental.
JBD was very good in the games he played for Ottawa this year. JBD and Branstrom when paired together were 1 and 2 in xGF, GF and Corsi. If it wasn’t for Ottawas position in the standings and lack of necessity for him right now he would probably still be playing in the NHL likely on the 2nd pair.

If you break it up as Savoie and the 1st for Brown and Bourgault for JBD, that leaves Ottawa getting paid Foegele and giving up Forsberg to take on Barrie. I dont see it as a massive overpayment but I also wouldnt be opposed to Ottawa adding something to make up for the difference between what JBD is now and what Bourgault is projected to be.

I would love to add Paul. Decent 3C not overly offensive but he can PK and let Holloway play out the rest of the year in the AHL. Also not really a fan of adding Bourgault I would prefer to sent Lavoie but Holland has terrible negotiation skills and I bet Ottawa would demand him in return for a 21 year old top 4 RHD prospect that is a lot like Larsson while also taking Barrie.

You'd need to add Stuetzle to get Holland to answer the phone. This is just crazy.

How do you break the trade down?

I don't think Forsberg is a target for Edmonton and JBD seems to have lost some value since the draft. Bourgault and Savoie have more value than JBD (as does the 1st, obviously). Barrie is an elite offensive defenseman but average defensively, Brown is a middle six winger which the Oilers aren't desperate for. I'm just not seeing any value for giving up Barrie and (effectively) 3 1st round picks (2022 1st, Bourgault and Savoie). Plus Foegele, who is a competent 3rd line winger himself.
