Start Of A New Era

Created by: Mediumyeet
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 27, 2022
Published: Jan. 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
MOTTE IS OBVIOUSLY ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE TRADE

Canucks clear a lot of cap space here, reshape their defense, and get a lot faster. They can now operate without Ferland on LTIR so that they can accrue capspace and hopefully take advantage of an opportunity presented by a cap strapped team.

  1. Kapanen, Kasperi [RFA Rights]
PIT
  1. Garland, Conor
Additional Details:
*OFFSEASON*

(Not sure if anything needs to be added from either side. Could see garland doing really well in Pittsburgh. I think Allvin and Rutherford would like to bring in guys with speed like Kapanen. Garland is super shifty but I wouldn't call him fast)
5.
VAN
  1. Joseph, Mathieu [RFA Rights]
TBL
  1. 2023 4th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
*OFFSEASON*

(Not sure what the value is here but I think Joseph is a good target for the nucks. He's one of Castonguay's former clients. He will be an RFA that could not only be looking for a bit of a raise but some more opportunity to play.)
6.
MTL
  1. Myers, Tyler
Additional Details:
*OFFSEASON*

(This one is a bit more outside the box and a long shot. Canucks bank on Petry having a bounce back and just being a better fit with OEL or Hughes than Myers is. Habs get a serviceable dman back but the main win for them is they get out of the contract a year earlier than Petry's)

Garland is untouchable for Vancouver, don't even think about moving him, and he is way more valuable than Kapanen

Myers is more valuable than Petry, that trade isn't happening

I don't think Formenton is valuable enough of a prospect to make the Sens deal work

I think Joseph is worth closer to a 2nd/3rd to Tampa

If Vancouver is retaining salary on the Miller deal, the ask will be more

That value is actually pretty spot on for that amount of salary retained, but it won't be Schnieder. It would be Lundkvist.

Garland is definitely not even close to being untouchable.

Neither Myers or Petry are valuable given their contracts. Petry would be a better fit on the Canucks Blueline.

Formenton is a roster player not a prospect and has been breaking out this year and the exact type of player Rutherford and Boudreau like to have.

12 point in his last 12 games. Coming into his own in his first full year in the NHL after putting up almost 30 goals, making the all star game and winning the fastest skater on his first pro season in the AHL. He’s almost at least a guaranteed breakaway per game. Dangerous on the pk and starting to get pp time too.

Forms is very valuable and I don’t think Ottawa has any intention of moving him.

Tampa would want a Waiver exempt player or a low 2nd or high 3rd and a AHL filler

I never said Dickinson was untouchable, I'm just saying the Canucks aren't going to throw him away for cheap. Everybody makes the Canucks cap situation out to be worse than it really is just because of the Benning stigma

I don't, I'm just saying I can't stand all the needless whining about the Canucks like things are never going to improve, it's not the type of culture that should be getting promoted

From the person who throws a fit when someone suggests trading a middle 6 or bottom 6 player.

It's not whining it's opinions/suggestions on ways the team can go to improve.

Nothing wrong with the concept of the move itself, I just don't like the context in which a majority of the scenarios that involve moving these particular assets are suggested
