1. We no longer have to worry about selling Holden off at the deadline.

2. Holden takes a pay cut with a team that is not a great destination for UFAs and where every player pays about 50% of their salary in taxes.

3. It's only a 1 year deal.

4. Holden wants to stick around a team that has had a brutal season and is nowhere close to earning a playoff spot.

5. Holden has been our 2nd best LD after Thomas Chabot this season, despite being 34 years of age.

I voted yes.

He’s been a good D on a team with very few good D. Him and Zub have been a pretty decent shutdown pair (they were the reason we waltzed through Alberta), and he’s been our most reliable D when Chabot’s played with Zub. He’d probably only bring in a mid-round pick at the deadline, so I’m perfectly fine with keeping a solid defenseman on our roster for another year, especially because we don’t draw free agents very often. Should allow us to ease Sanderson in if he needs it. Very little risk with this deal, as it’s pretty cheap (significantly less than Del Zotto, who we buried with no issues), and only one year, so if age catches up to him we aren’t burned by a lengthy/expensive deal. Good signing all around.

I liked Holden when he was on the Rangers, less offence now but still solid.

This is the perfect contract for a depth dman. Holden isn't too smart, but he still performs decently.

Hell yeah! Was really hoping he'd be back. Exactly the kind of Vet you want around a young blueline. He's been very solid for Ottawa, especially playing with guys not named Josh Brown or Nikita Zaitsev. Don't know exactly how the D shakes out next year, but he's a pretty great option on the 3LD spot.

Something like this would look pretty good.

Chabot/Zub
Sanderson/Brannstrom
Holden/Bernard-Docker

The key move this offseason is getting rid of Nikita Zaitsev. He's so bad, and the D has been so drastically better this stretch without him (Even Josh Brown hasn't looked completely terrible of late).

Don't know why Vegas made that deal this offseason, but It's been great for Ottawa.

Always thought Holden was under appreciated for what he is. Decent bottom pairing dman, I was hoping the Canucks would sign him- he is the bottom pairing type they need- but instead we got Poolman- at twice the price, and while younger- I dont think he has ever been better than Holden.
