Nope, Detroit ain't doing that... Lindstrom is criminally underrated and his value is FAR higher to us, than it would be to others, so, he's not being traded.

Laine with an extension is going to cost *a lot* more. Like, some combination of 1sts, alongside Holtz, Mercer, etc.

Also, my prediction from the start - whether with CBJ or someone else, Laine's extension is likely only 4-5 years. That way, he gets out of it while still at a prime age (27-28), and can negotiate a raise with the cap starting to go back up.

Columbus is going to want Hughes on top of that package. We've been down this road before.
Also, Laine is going to want $11-12 million x 8 years.

Is Laine really worth Holtz + Sharangovich, especially knowing he wants to be highest paid winger in NHL?
54 points in his last 82 games.

What am I missing here?

Not entirely familiar with NJ's farm system. Whoever fills the blank as a top prospect.

Sure, he maybe wants to be the top paid winger, but he's not going to be. I peg his value being able to play on a line with someone like Hughes or Hischier to probably be at or around $8M. Crap on his play for an offensively inept CBJ team, but a 156-130-286 line in 372 games, all before turning 24 is going to get someone to pay out.

Are teams going to pay up for the 0.8 ppg in his first few years, or the 0.5 ppg in his most recent years? Laine could say, "your $8 million isn't enough" and sign his QO. He would be UFA in a year. I just don't know how that puts his value on par with 9-years of Jack Hughes or 7-years of Nico Hischier.

Not the best comp, but Laine has similar numbers to what Jeff Skinner had at similar age. Skinner was dealt for Cliff Pu and some mid-round picks before his last bridge-deal season was up.

I could see a team willing to pay him serious $$, but I cannot see his trade value very high.

Why in the world would Detroit give up Lindstrom and a 2nd for 1 year of Severson?
