Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 27, 2022
Published: Jan. 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Although this may not look like a massive upgrade it is a step in the right direction.
- Acquiring a young goalie who has shown that he can play at a top level for long stretches of play is something Kahkonen brings. He is only going to get better (may not be an all star goalie but he is very solid.
- Offloading Barrie and Ceci is key. Two brutal dman who frankly bring very little to any team. hence assets going with them.
- Jost is a solid bottom 6 and their is talk of Avs offloading him. a mid round pick should get it done
- The leafs trade is suspect as they will probably want something back for what they are giving. Holl is a solid 5th dman and Steeves will be great to any bottom 6 in the league next year. Mrazek is a burden for the leafs so that is why I have it as a dump/future consideration trade.
- RNH should be an Oiler for life but the way Holland/past GMs have left this roster (Keith, Kassian, Hyman) there is simply not enough money to go around. Trading him for a solid middle six centre/winger in texier helps out the 3rd line. Gavrikov is a very steady/underrated dman that any team in the league would want (can play in any top 4)
- The most valuable asset the Oilers get from all these trades is Cap Space for the 23-24 offseason where they look to spend 27M on another top end D, forward depth and re-upping some of their own players

I'm happy with the offer for Kahkonen, but really don't think the Wild can move him. Don't have a ready replacement, Wallstedt in all reality is still one or two years away. Maybe the Wild could find a guy in FA but that might get expensive.

Nope, Leafs easily say no. There is no reason to trade Mrazek right now, but if you want him, give the Leafs a first and a prospect

If I'm being honest the Wild have to win now (the next 1-2 seasons) before the 3rd and 4th years of Suter/Parise buyout kick in so you got Talbot until than. I do not see Kahkonen being a goalie to take you guys to the promise land. getting value for him now before he walks in free agency in a couple years is probably the right call. Can Probably resign talbot after the 22-23 season for a team friendly deal and he can be Wallstedt's mentor. But ya for the 22-23 campaign they would need a back up. Can always find a cheap option in FA (Desmith, Halak, Francouz. maybe even holtby?). Talbot/Holtby tandem could be gross

Mrazek is gonna be the reason the leafs can't sign Campbell and no one is paying for an injury prone goalie.

I guess i can get that logic. Not sure Guerin sees it that way, but i get your thought process.

Buddy imma a leafs fan... Leafs gotta dump Mrazek to sign Campbell. Holl is not needed next year with the strides Liljegren is taking and that 2M can be spent better somewhere else. In terms of Steeves he probably can be taken out of the deal but in my eyes you need a sweetener for Mrazek being sent to EDM.

I think that your experience with Tyson Barrie on the Leafs has jaundiced you to his true value. If he's moved, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a second. Edmonton won't have to pay to move him.

      I'd give you Talbot for a 5th.

I wouldn't touch that Kähkönen trade if I'm MN.

      What?! LOL

3.8m for another 2 seasons is damn good reason. I guess they could just let Soupy walk for nothing alternatively.

Avs not trading jost for a 3rd, that’s such a low ball offer for a player they aren’t trying to dump. We just making up things now?

Why would COL trade an effective cost controlled bottom 6 guy that PK’s can play all 3 forward spots for a 3rd pick? Yeah that’s not happening.

Some interesting ideas here, but why did you knee-cap Ryan and Shore? The minors is a less violent and more legal option…

Ken Holland is desperate for a goalie, he thinks Martin Jones is the answer. Goalies do not come in for cheap, any goalie you want will have to start with your first round pick. Mrazek will be made available in the offseason, but right now, he isn't available

I reckon there are plenty of teams who'd give up a 2nd for Jost if the Avs were going to move him so on that basis they decline.
