Bruins Draft Board Part 2

Created by: BruinsFan35
Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 28, 2022
Published: Jan. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think that the needs for the Bruins in terms of youth in the future has changed a little with the emergence of some players. In the first prospect update, I said that the Bruins should prioritize a two-way center and a left defenseman in the higher rounds, as that is what they need to fill out the most in the pipeline. However, with the emergence of Zboril (prior to injury) and Vaakanainen, the left defenseman should no longer be the co-#1 priority. So, the Bruins top priority in this draft should be a center with potential to be a top-six guy in the future. Secondly, any winger/defensive prospects that play a Bruins-style of game. I think scheme fit is undervalued when it comes to drafting players, but if the Bruins plan on having Bruce Cassidy man the bench for years to come, we should be drafting players who look like they could perform in his system. Bottom priority should be goalie, unless there's a top-end prospect that falls into our lap, we shouldn't take one.

According to cap friendly, the Bruins have the following picks right now:

#19 (Round 1)
#51 (Round 2)
#81 (Round 3)
#115 (Round 4)
#147 (Round 5)
#179 (Round 6)
#211 (Round 7)

I'm using my current big board for the prospects that would be in the range of those selections. Here's the top three prospects that I would prioritize at each pick. Picks are in descending order.

Just curious as to how you make up your big board for prospects as some of those options for your first pick are way off the board.

You commented this last time. I mostly agree, but I think that all of the players below are realistic to be in those spots and would play well in the system. It’s a style thing, without giving up players with more upside or talent. That is the case for the guys I picked, especially the first choices.

This is the sort of logic that brought you such hits as Zach Senyshyn, Beecher, and Frederic.

There's been lots of cases where the best player available also turns into a bust. The draft is honestly just a roll the dice no matter who you pick.

A guy just off the top of my head is yakupov. Best available player in that draft and look where he is now. In fact look at the top5 in that draft. Only 1 of them actually developed into something significant. Don't act like it's impossible to draft a bust even if he's the best available player. Sure some guys have better odds than others but at the end of the day it's all just a roulette.

Oh congrats on coming up with a first overall pick bust. Of course there are outliers of high end picks not working out, and the inverse of 6th round picks being superstars. To say its a roll of the dice, seemingly to me at least insinuating theres little correlation between “best player available,” and end results is absurd.

Did you not read what I wrote? I'm not insinuating that at all. I'm just saying no matter who you pick, best available player or not, is at the end of the day just a pick of the draw. Nobody knows how well that player will develop or not.

And I didn't just come up with one 1st overall pick bust. 4 out of the 5 top picks that draft became busts. Are those outliers too?

Best available leads to better results. Just look up central scouting vs actual picks. The teams that tend to go for a position do worse. Going for position in football and basketball makes sense. Doing it in hockey and baseball is phenomenally stupid.
