The Vrana and Burakovsky trades look like big misses so far (though at least Vrana got Mantha back), but imagine this team with Forsberg on it too. The winger depth is insane.

Sucks to lose Bura but he wasn't going to be out Ovi, Oshie, Willy, or Vrana and he deserevd top 6 time so it had to happen.

Holtby was bad the last 2 years here so we had to let him go and take a chance on our kids.

Vrana trade was fine. He just wasn't working out here. Mantha is great.

Sucks to lose Siegs but the draft pick Brent Johnson we got back for him has the potential to be even better than him.

It sucks, siegs has the best stats in the league. Mantha is great. I guess I will reverse it

The vrana trade was absolutely a win win for both. Mantha's really good when he's not being lazy. He just didn't really fit our system well anymore.

The only thing tipping it towards an L was the fact that you also had to pay to dump Panik for two years cause of the cap crunch.

That and he was potentially asking for a ton of money, if I remember correctly.

Respectively the only move yhat have ended up as major L for WSH has been dumping Stephenson to Vegas for a 5th rounder. He was better than that, and especially now he's looking like a beast.

Burakovsky underperformed in WSH and got some decent picks in return that were dealt further for Dillon. Later Dillon was dealt for picks too. Time will tell how those picks will pan out.

Siegenthaler was dealt for the purpose of not losing him for free. He was stuck in that system and it did no good for him. The fact he broke out after leaving is unfortunate but not something.

I don't think WSH "are idiots." Their veteran core just didn't allow for younger players to flourish, and they started to do that elsewhere. The returns have mostly been acceptable.

Except the Forsberg one but that was nine years ago lmao

I feel this could have worked out if we didn’t play the vets and get the vets. Siegs was always great defensively. I miss vrana’s speed and just miss burns all around game. Chandler was always a good plug in but never had the success he is having now

WSH committed long term on their vets and during the tight cap era it automatically leads to the youth getting cut. It works well when you're competitive but it has it's drawbacks too, as it makes future building very difficult.

The best teams are those who can build a hybrid of both. CHI and LA dynasties were example of that to a certain extent until their time ran out, then it was Pittsburgh's time to shine and now it's Tampa time.

We were that right age when we won. Now we are on the older side and not as dynamic. I need to face reality that this what life is like now. 😔

Indeed.

For a Leafs fan it might sound a short time lol, but don't expect to win a next cup until you're closer to my age.

I don't think Caps is going to win a cup with their current core, but even before they could start a rebuild they first need to wait their current core to expire before rebuilding. That'll likely take 5-10 years, probably even longer.

I don't know yet. It starts 4 AM my time so the timetable is f*cked for me. If I'm awake I'll probably watch it.

you had to do something with Cap when we got Stephenson...Sure could have traded or cut someone else, but hindsight is always easier after the fact lol

I really don't think this is all that bad. Look at Detroit Holland's last 5 1st rd picks Zadina, Veleno, Rasmussen, Cholowski and Svechnikov now add that to Holland giving out NTCs to everyone. Cholowski and Svechnikov along with the NTCs were all done when Detroit was still a playoff team and when a team is doing well the people making decisions tend to take more chances.
