Boldy isn’t available. I think your framework is pretty good, but it has to be a lesser prospect. And if that’s the case, I’m sure Van gets a better offer elsewhere.

The first Marino trade that actually makes sense. I'd do this.

EDIT: So the only thing I overlooked is cap. The Pens literally have zero space and this brings in more salary than it sends out. Are you willing to retain $2M on Boeser since it's only the remainder of the season?

Pens are taking in $11.875
Pens are sending out $7.6

Retaining $2M brings the Pens closer to the point they can trade DeSmith to free up the rest which they'd need to do anyway.

Canucks would totally do this, but the Penguins shoudln't. Canucks would be happy to retain that for Boeser

Why do you think the Pens shouldn't do this?

Boeser for Marino, for argument sake, is a wash. Then the Pens give the Canucks Kapanen who is a regular point contributor and a decent prospect in POJ but receive Myers back. Myers has been playing better, but he's still overpaid by a lot.

So as a Canucks fan, I would totally do this but don't see why Pens fans would agree to this

Here's why I believe it works for the Pens:

1) Kapanen is a good player who's on pace for just under 50 points, but he just doesn't fit the Pens' system and there's a lot of frustration wit him now from the coaching staff.
2) Marino is awesome. Him and Myers aren't that dissimilar in what they bring, but Myers address the size and physicality Hextall wants on this team.
3) Halak provides the desperate need to upgrade our back-up situation and give Jarry a break.

The only issue that arrises for the Pens is next year's cap with Boeser, but if push came to shove the Pens can still move his rights for something decent.

1 and 3 are totally valid. I just think you'd be downgrading a lot from Marino to Myers. Plus you're adding Myers' 6M AND Boeser's 7.5M QO along with your cap situation with resigning Letang and Malkin, it'll be hard this offseason for the Pens.

The money is an issue for sure, but I think the Pens can flip Boeser for a decent pick or prospect which is fine because I think Kapanen gets moved anyway.

I agree with him, If Boldy was not in the trade and it was a different prospect (like Beckman or Khunsdinov) I would do it
