It's obvious he just wants Ducharme out. I'm confident we're going to see the old Petry back (or at least 50% of it) when the coach is fired

If the habs pay someone to take him, I’m sure they’ll be able to move him.

No, what would be stupid would be to see a high plaid player on a long term contract turn 34, drastically decline, and say, “suureeee. I would love to trade for him.” That would be moronic. Clueless even.

You don’t win with kids, you win with veterans. His age is meaningless because he can still play. Prospects only matter when you stink

I can't see him being tradeable right now. He'll most likely bounce back at some point and then you can move him, but with the way things are now, nobody is wanting that contract

Sometimes I am wondering if you watch NHL games. You seems like a guy who only watch statistics and decide if a player is good by points. Maybe you are the one rating NHL players in the Franchise EA Sports. That would explain why it’s so ****ed up

I’m the opposite of that. I don’t care about stats in most situations. Petry has played like crap.

Don’t know why prospects have come into this discussion. Prospects always matter. They’re trade chips when a team is good, and rebuilding assets when a team is bad.

Petry isn’t playing well. He’s at an age when a lot of guys start to not play well. Hes gone off a cliff, and teams aren’t stupid enough to take a four year commitment for that. He’s got buyout written all over him.

Only Lehkonen & Allen have played great on that MTL ****ty team. So everyone are cap dump now because the team is bad ?

What don’t you understand about this.
1. Large contract.
2. Four year term.
3. Player is 34.
4. Player is playing poorly.

Gudbranson at 4M wasn’t a cap dump
An offensive RHD who put up 40+ points in 4 consecutive years is now a cap dump because he has a bad year ? He hates the coach and the team suck. He scored ONE goal since Ducharme took over. So even last year with Ducharme, he wasn’t putting points. But wait, didn’t he had a career year last year ? Yes he did while Claude Julien was here, imagine how many goals and points he would have finished with if Ducharme didn’t became the HC. Ducharme is a piece of **** who doesn’t know **** about the NHL

Alright i guess I’ll try to go slower. Not really sure why gudbranson was brought up. He was traded for a 24 year old ECHL player, and a 7th round pick. He was not 34. He did not have a big long term contract. See the difference?

Petry wouldn’t be the first player to fall off a cliff once hitting his mid-thirties. Tons have. So while there is a chance that this is just a down year, and all of a sudden when he’s 35 he starts playing better, there is also a chance, likely a much much much better chance, that Petry has aged, and he isn’t the same player he used to be. When weighing those two options, why would a team take a chance on 3+ years of a 34 year old player who has shown signs of a severe decline, and is playing poorly (being of an age where players frequently show signs of a severe decline, and continue to decline)? Makes zero sense. Yes, he’s a cap dump, and that is the most obvious conclusion possible in a very subjective league.

I understand you don’t follow MTL very much because you are not a Habs fans. But Petry hasn’t change anything in is style of play. No Habs fans thinks he fell of a cliff. If you didn’t know, because of the Covid thing happening in Quebec, is wife Julie with is 3 kids went back home in Michigan at Christmas. Petry wants to be traded back in the U.S, he doesn’t like it here with a bad team without is wife and kids. You had the fact that he hates the HC, that’s why he is struggling. Now, I understand probably no teams are welling to pay prime assets for him right now. But everyone need to understand that MTL isn’t considering Petry as a cap dump. If he is getting move it’s gonna be this offseason for future assets or he stays next year and have a bounces back season and get traded. If he does not bounce back, then he is officially a cap dump

It’s fine if the habs aren’t considering petry a cap dump. The rest of the league will. Everyone’s dealing with covid issues, and sure that might be the whole reason his performance has declined.

But do you understand that this is an age where most players start to really decline? So you look at this player from the perspective of a team considering acquiring him, and they’re going to say one of two things, which one do you think is more likely?
1. Well, this 34 signed for four seasons at 6.25 is having a really bad year, but he’s been good before. Maybe he just misses his family and that’s what he’s playing bad!
2. Maybe he bounces back, but taking on 6.25 for four years for a 34 year old that’s playing poorly is way way way too big of a risk for us to even consider it.

If the habs trade petry this season, or in this off-season, they will have to pay to do it

Jent Hugues just said today if a team gives us good assets for the future they will trade Petry, but if we can’t, he will remains a Montreal Canadiens. So Jeff Petry is available, but teams have to pay for him. So he’ll probably just remain a Habs

Yup. No chance any team would take him for free, so definitely no chance habs get a return.

simply to prove that Petry is not horrible... plus minus... one of is best year ever... when team have is worst goal against since ever!
If you watch hockey, you will see that is thinking too much, in a very bad system trying to play defensively when he should skate.
During the game you see the with no effort, not caring about anything... he need to be surrounded by good vet in a good team spirit because he is not strong enough mentally.
like when he was in Edmonton.... but this doesn't take away all is value. When MTL sign him @ 6.25M every Hockey analyst was saying that in two year it will be a great cheap deal!

You’re not….you’re not really trying to say that PLUS MINUS is proof that Petry is not terrible? Hahahahaha cmon pal. That stat is known as a bit of a joke. Analysts may have said it would be a cheap deal, but now he’s getting old, and he fell off a cliff. There’s a reason all the habs fans are trying to ditch him in trade. He’s a cap dump dude. You know it, you just haven’t admitted it to yourself yet.

Dump is way too heavy as a sentence... It's normal that we don't agree as you are a Bruins fan... rivals for life :-)
