Busy Deadline

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2022
Published: Jan. 31, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don’t think Devils will be this busy. Probably just add a goalie and couple minor moves.
Trades
1.
TBL
  1. Clarke, Graeme
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
And $$ via retaining as third party on other deadline acquisition.
2.
NJD
  1. Mrázek, Petr
Additional Details:
Recent report said Leafs are taking calls on Mracek and it’s no secret Devils are in need of a goaltender. It was said that Leafs would want a goalie back, but in this scenario, they would have to find one elsewhere.

Would probably be other pieces involved.
TOR
  1. Bernier, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Bernier is out for year, if not for career. Devils aren’t close enough to cap ceiling to use LTIR, but have to pay Bernier’s salary anyway. A move to Mzarek is a small change in actual dollars, but big change for Salary Cap as Leafs save full cap amount on Mzarek’s $3.8 million.
3.
VAN
  1. McCarthy, Case [Reserve List]
  2. Stillman, Chase
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
If the Devils and Canucks link up on a Garland trade, it would more likely be an off-season deal. Stillman was a 1st rounder last year and is still in juniors. McCarthy is defensive RHD thriving at Boston University. This package is more fitting should Canucks go more “rebuild” than “retool”
4.
NJD
  1. Iorio, Vincent
  2. 2022 4th round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Subban, P.K. ($4,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Plus late pick to third team to retain an extra 25%
5.
NJD
  1. 2022 6th round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Vesey, Jimmy
Additional Details:
Cheap penalty-killing pick-up for a contender
6.
NJD
NYR
  1. Geertsen, Mason
Additional Details:
Send the designated Ranger-puncher to ECHL
Buyouts
Retained Salary Transactions
Recapture Fees

IF they can go out and get Halak right after this move, I wouldn't hate it. Especially if they can use the added space to upgrade the Dcore.

Halak is going to get a major bonus if he plays too many more games and TO can't afford that. They need a solid goalie to play a lot down the stretch. Mrazek isn't getting moved until the off season.

That’s a Subban-sized opening there

We would have to move justin. I’d rather have pk. So yes. Just tell not to cause a lot of penalties

If they need a solid goalie down the stretch, how would they obtain one while keeping Mrazek? This trade would be more about the $3.8 million in cap space it creates for Toronto (Bernier is out for season and would be put on LTIR) so they can add at deadline.

TB hasn't made a trade where they sent away a defenseman and not get one back other than De'Angelo who they just thought was a POS. human being in the Yzerman/Brisebois era not happening now either especially considering that RD is their weakest position.

That report said the Leafs have been called about Mrazek but Dubas isn't going to move him. The goalies are an offseason issue for the Leafs.

Send Schultz back if you need to. PK doesn’t get too many needless penalties. Nothing like his first season in NJ.

Okay, then probably wouldn’t work then as Devils need a goalie yesterday.

Performance Bonuses are paid out following the season. The bonuses are added to the final cap hit for the year that was just concluded, and if that total including bonuses earned exceeds the salary cap, the excess is a bonus carryover overage that is a cap hit for the following year.

Halak will earn $1.25M once he appears in his 10th game this season. He’s already played eight games. He’ll earn an additional $250,000 if his save percentage is .905 or higher — which he’s currently on pace to achieve with a .915 SV%.

Only if the Leafs are pressed up against the salary cap ceiling at the end of this season, Halak’s $1.5M in bonuses would count against next year’s cap. As long as they create a little buffer than can fit those bonuses in.

I will agree they more than likely will wait till the offseason but this could work.

I would be fine with this move if it means we get another goalie (Halak)

Those are rookie bonuses you are talking about. Vet performance bonuses are different. Vancouver isn't playing Halak to save money.

Yes that is correct and what I was showing. The Leafs have no performance bonuses this year. In a hypothetical world they can obtain Halak.

I firmly believe Mrazek is the wisest choice to tandem with Soup this season. Then trade him in the off season. Halak isn't what he used to be.

We don’t need or want Subban.

1. We don’t have the money for him even if u retain 85%
2. Iorio is our future RHD and is gonna be solid
3. We already have Carlson Schultz & Jensen and they’re all better than Subban
