Panthers Cup Run

Created by: KadenM_R
Team: 2021-22 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2022
Published: Feb. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They honestly don't need to do much, they already have a deep lineup top to bottom but could definitely use a top 4 D so thats where Gio comes in. They're up against the cap so they can't really make any major moves this TDL.
Trades
1.
FLA
  1. Giordano, Mark ($3,375,000 retained)
Additional Details:
There will be a bidding war for Gio so Zito reluctantly offers Denisenko
SEA
  1. Denisenko, Grigori
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2022 6th round pick (CGY)
2.
FLA
  1. 2022 5th round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Vatrano, Frank
Additional Details:
Pushed down the depth chart this year, so Zito dumps the cap and grabs a pick
3.
FLA
  1. Strome, Dylan ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Immediately plug him in the third line left wing. Great boost to the forward depth and they can sign him after the season if they want
CHI
  1. 2022 5th round pick (FLA)
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (FLA)

I could see Hampus Lindholm being the ideal piece for Florida...

Thoughts on: Lindholm (50% retained) for Denisenko, 2023 2nd, Vatrano?

I feel like thats mostly a fair deal but I imagine Anaheim would want to keep Lindholm since they're doing surprisingly well this year

As a Ducks fan, I personally feel like the team needs to take a more long-term oriented approach at the deadline. Covid cancellations have really made the Pacific look a lot more separated than it actually is...the Central will more than likely claim both of the wildcard spots, leaving Anaheim, LA, Calgary and Edmonton fighting for 2 playoff spots. As much as I love how it's gone so far, the Flames and Oilers both have 7 games in hand on us, and are well within striking distance. Obviously they're going to have a lot of games slammed together, which will be somewhat beneficial for the Ducks, but I would be very, very surprised to be in the same spot a month from now.

With that, whoever the new GM ends up being (Looking like Pat Verbeek?), has to come in and get something done ASAP. If your first move is to watch Manson, Lindholm and Rakell walk for nothing this summer you're clinging to a *potential* playoff birth, it's a pretty horrible spot to put yourself. Gotta think whoever gets hired comes in with a clear, long-term oriented plan.

Plus, the Ducks could always just re-sign him in the offseason tears of joy

This is a good take right here. I think Anaheim is likely still a seller, and they should be. They may be 2nd in the pacific as it stands right now, but with Covid cancellations the only fair way to do it is points percentage, which puts them outside a playoff spot. The could get multiple quality picks and prospects for the guys you just mentioned, I doubt all 3 of them get moved but I don't think they should hold onto all of them and hope to squeeze into the playoffs just to probably get Colorado or Vegas in the first round lol.

I don't love Giordano to Florida. I just don't think he helps this team that much to warrant targeting him.

Thanks! I feel like the next month is going to be like walking a tight rope for Ducks fans. In an ideal world, I'm extending Lindholm, moving Rakell, and listening on Manson.

Fair enough, we know they want a top 4 D so there are a decent amount to choose from
