Clearing cap space and filling needs

Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2022
Published: Feb. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is only for fun so don't take it too serious. Feel free to offer suggestions to make a trade better.

1. Isles defense are terrible. They will be letting both Chara and Greene walk in the off-season and may trade Mayfield by the deadline. They're going to need someone now and for the next couple years.

2. Arizona has made themselves available to absord cap hits. Don't really buy a lot with this move but do obtain a servicable bottom pair D that doesn't fit into the Yotes plans. They get a pick, a prospect and can even give Senyshyn a no risk try out for the rest of the season to see if he can pan out.

3. For Seattle, Debrusk is equal or better than Jarnkrok and is much younger. Nosek is better than Sheahan and younger as well. I thought about throwing in a late pick to off set the extra cap hit but I'd start negotiations straight up.

4.Opened up cap space so now approach Vegas who is under the gun to move some contracts. Martinez fits a LD1 need and taking advantage of the situation should net him at a serious discount. Clifton opens up another million and flipping the Isle's draft pick should get it done.

Those first four deals need to be done sooner rather than later or risk missing the Vegas dump.

5. Lastly, if Pavelski is willing to come to the Bruins a first round pick and a couple young players will hopefully get it done.

Be gentle. 🤣✌

I don’t have any problem with these trades actually. The only one is the Pavelski trade as I think he could get a better return than that and teams will for sure be more willing to give up more in a trade. But the rest of the trades are maybes and they are good maybes

why would a non playoff team trade for rental DeBrusk.
Everyone knows he's a UFA next year as no one is signing him to that awful qo he's owed.

Yeah, I thought I might have to throw a prospect or another pick in to make the Pavelski trade work but thought it would make an alright opening volley. 😉

He's not a rental. He's an RFA, so they will own his rights. Seattle would sign him to a low term deal and slot him in their top 6. They are looking to build for the future but need to have players to get them to that point. I think they would see the value of taking a short term chance on him.

no he's a rental. No one is paying him a qo on 4.8+ million. It's not happening.

Really? So a player that scored 27 goals in a year, is over .5 points per game for his career and is only 24 years old is never going to get signed by anyone because he had two down years during Covid? Even though he is looking a lot better the past month even while playing under the cloud of asking for a trade? You'll excuse me if I think you don't know what you are talking about.
An expansion team is the perfect place for him to sign. You think he isn't determined to prove everyone wrong and establish himself as a top 6 player? In Seattle they can give him a legitimate shot without the fear of being sent to the pressbox everytime he has a bad game. It really doesn't cost them anything to do it. Seattle could always give him an extension before he becomes an RFA too. Debrusk may be willing to take another year at his cap hit salary rather than go to free agency at a low point in his career. If I was a GM, that's what I would offer him. If he agrees that would negate ever having to go to a qualifying offer.

do I even really need to comment on this. I mean really? Are you gonna sit here with a straight face and say he's worth his 4.8 million cap hit? Because we both know he's not right now. That simply isn't what the numbers show. He has no reason to agree to take less either rather than becoming a FA and controlling his own future. Which is what is going to happen and everyone knows it.
But keep desperately holding onto this idea that a guy who's not going to get a QO has trade value to a team not going to the playoffs. He doesn't.
Even if he was going to a playoff team, as it stands right now, the value is not high due to the QO situation. Teams just aren't spending 4.8M + on role players.
