How is Subban remotely comparable.

Petry has negative value. Hronek has a lot of positive value. This much is obvious.

obvious is a wreck if you want my opinion. Petry asked to go cuz is family leaved the town and he hates ducharme it's not a down year nor the fact he is in his downside yet. Value is still there but now maximised ... the subban perspective is to clash an old one for a youngster is possible.

There was a lot more going on than just, “old guy for young guy.”

Theres a chance you’re right and that petry’s crap year is just a one off. However, he’s shown what looks like a steep decline at an age where a lot of guys hit a steep decline. He’s got term, and a big AAV. Why is any team taking that gamble?

term are long but cash wise for the pts for this kind of d-man that would retire as a top4 on any top team. The gamble is more on the scenery change perspective than playing slot machine

The way he’s playing this year he’s not a top 4 on most teams. Point totals are not exactly exciting.

Ask yourself this question, if the season ended today, and Petry was a free agent (all hypothetical), what contract do you think he would get on the open market? 3x6.25? Probably more like 1x2.

Why exactly is Detroit trading the young second pairing RHD to get a disgruntled/underperforming mid 30s defender locked up until his late 30s? The picks are irrelevant and the prospects are okay but then again Detroit’s prospect pool is good. Mind you Detroit is rebuilding so and the GM has said he wishes to acquire guys around his core’s age and further “veteran leadership” isn’t bringing in guys disgruntled.

Leddy is a LHD. We’re fine on RHD and the difference between a late second rounder and Hronek is big.

Leddy had a year left on his contract and was 30. Not a bloated 4 yrs left at 6.25 million at 34 yrs old. I don't see Petry as a legitimate fit for Detroit during a rebuild. To Detroit he is a cap dump you receive assests for. Montreal has the highest cap hit in the NHL according to capfiendly. They are in a horrible position and are not going to be baled out for free and will have to pay to dump guys like Petry.
