Clearing Cap Space and Filling Needs 2

Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 3, 2022
Published: Feb. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is only for fun so don't take it too serious. Feel free to offer suggestions to make a trade better. I had mostly good feed back on these except for my last trade for Pavelski so I took another stab at that one.

1. Isles defense are terrible. They will be letting both Chara and Greene walk in the off-season and may trade Mayfield by the deadline. They're going to need someone now and for the next couple years.

2. Arizona has made themselves available to absord cap hits. Don't really buy a lot with this move but do obtain a servicable bottom pair D that doesn't fit into the Yotes plans. They get a pick, a prospect and can even give Senyshyn a no risk try out for the rest of the season to see if he can pan out.

3. For Seattle, Debrusk is equal or better than Jarnkrok and is much younger. Nosek is better than Sheahan and younger as well. I thought about throwing in a late pick to off set the extra cap hit but I'd start negotiations straight up.

4.Opened up cap space so now approach Vegas who is under the gun to move some contracts. Martinez fits a LD1 need and taking advantage of the situation should net him at a serious discount. Clifton opens up another million and flipping the Isle's draft pick should get it done.

Those first four deals need to be done sooner rather than later or risk missing the Vegas dump.

5. Lastly, if Pavelski is willing to come to the Bruins a first round pick, a conditional second, a prospect and a young player will hopefully do the trick.

If all this gets done, I think the Bruins have a chance at making a nice playoff run.

Be gentle. 🤣✌

If Vegas is under the gun, why are you giving them assets back? Make them pay to move cap, dude.

You could go that way but Clifton and a 3rd is still a steal for Martinez. Maybe I flip it though and go Clifton for Martinez and a 3rd. I need to move Clifton to make enough cap space.

1- Well, for starters, give them nothing of use.

2- Now you're talkin'.

Problem is, they will probably have a few takers for Martinez, so I think you have to give them something or risk missing out.

How many takers could they possibly have for a guy making 5.25M signed for another two years? Cap is tight all over, at least for most contenders.

If Haula keeps playing the way he has at 2C we don't need to change the second line at all. He is on the plus side on draws, he is a grinder that line needs to retreive pucks and his point production would average out to 60+ points over 82 games since the beginning of January. The second line has been the best line we have had for a month now. Where we need help is an upgrade on Smith at RW on Bergys line. That allows Smith to go back to the third line where he will have more of an impact.
The other good thing about Pavelski is that it puts a second faceoff man on Bergys line for all those times they like to throw him out of the faceoff dot and there aren't many better at getting to the inside ice which that line struggles to do in the playoffs. These moves create three very capable lines and gives us options on the fourth line.
If for some reason Haula drops off, Pavelski is still able to slot into the 2C and would be just as successful there for the same reasons. Hall and Pasta work the outside ice while Pavelski would go to the interior for tips and bang ins. Don't know if you have been paying attention but he is still the highest scoring forward in Dallas. It's not an overpay the way he is playing and you might be overvaluing what Fredric brings to the table. Pavelski is worth 5 of him.

There are other GM's in the league and they want stuff too. It seems most fans just want the better deal to go to their team but most times both teams need to give a little more than they want to get a deal done. You have to pay to get stuff. Where are the overpays and what would you do different?

Go show me a recent rental that got a 1st, 2nd, and two prospects. But thanks for taking a full paragraph to say, “you have to give to get,” i know. You gave too much based on NHL trade history.

No need to get snotty. 😁 I think the first 3 trades are good. What I might change is the Vegas and Dallas trades.

If I really take advantage of Vegas I get them to throw in their 1st pick with Martinez to take his whole cap hit and just give them a 4th in return. Then I could trade Clifton out for a 3rd or 4th on his own. Then maybe drop the 2nd round pick and just give Freddy, Bergland and the Vegas 1st for Pavelski

Fair enough I understand your thinking and btw I totally agree I’m fine with haula at 2C but my only worry is that we give up a 1st and a decent young asset for a player who may not resign and is also quite old. I’d rather move those assets towards a younger player that benefits us now and later.

My ideal target if they are looking to bring in a top line guy is killer his trade value wouldn’t be a whole lot more then what you offered for pavelski and Miller plays all 3 positions so he can play top line and if haula starts to fail Miller can be 2C and smith or haula go to line 1 as marchy and bergy usually can make just about anyone look good

I think Miller and Hertl may end up being a bidding war and there is a chance, neither get moved at all. I'm looking at the Bruins taking a swing this year in case Bergy is done. Besides that, I replace this years 1st pick with one for next year from Vegas. Sorry, that's on my updated trade. Check my post under the same title but 3 instead of 2. You might like it better

Ya fair enough outside of that pavelski deal I’m fine with mostly everything I’m not to fond of moving nosek but that’s about it

I changed some things and it might look better to you. Nosek is just a cap casuality of bringing in Pavelski and Martinez. No other movable contracts that can open up the space. It's not that I don't value what he brings
