I like Roy.

I don't see Arizona using a cap dump space for Ritchie.

The Kings are currently in 2nd in the Pacific why should they keep making rebuild moves?

Points percentage has the Kings out of the playoffs (played 47 games so far).

With Drew Doughty, Matt Roy, Sean Durzi, and Sean Walker on the right-side.

Brandt Clarke, Helge Grans, Brock Faber, and Jordan Spence also all play on the right-side.

Not suggesting this is the right trade but one of these guys in the current lineup COULD become available.

Only Calgary and Vegas have better points %. Both Moneypuck and Hockey Reference see them as a playoff team edging out both the Ducks and Oilers currently. A bubble team yes, but out of the playoff picture? No. I'd think even by March you couldn't say that unless things go very poorly (the Kings had one of the hardest schedules in the league to start the season, and the easiest to end the season)

Besides this team is already without Walker, Edler for the season, losing another shut down type who plays the third-most minutes puts a nail in the coffin of a team that is outperforming their expectations.

Possibly the log jam starts next year, but even then Walker can play both sides. No need to rush Clarke or Durzi and none of those players are better defensively than Matt Roy.

Not suggesting it would happen this season but ONE of the current RD’s could become available.

I'd look to Walker then, Durzi is cheaper and proving to be more offensively effective for the Kings. Walker, Durzi, and Clarke have been seen as offense-type players. The closest Roy comparable is Faber and he's still in college.

Looking forward to watching Faber in the Olympics. Will be interesting to watch how all these guys develop

Same, I imagine it will be a while Kings development staff and Coach McLellan really don't rush guys along until they are really proven defensively sound. But you aren't wrong, a log jam is coming, and one of these good young guys will be on the chopping block.

It's a very nice position to be in. RD's are one of the most sought after trade pieces, the trouble will be not moving one who out plays the other.

Exactly, also the King system heavily favors someone like Roy, so I think Durzi will eventually end up being moved once Clarke arrives, which will further delay Faber's ticket to the big show. It's a similar issue at center, the Kings can really afford one spot 3C and that's Byfields now.

By the time young guys are ready, which is 1-2 season out at most, it makes hardly any sense to keep the older player. Get value now vs get value later. Even if you LAK made the playoffs against Calgary, Vegas, Edmonton or Colorado do y’all really have a chance? It’s better to take steps but miss the playoffs rather than give a false sense of hope. LAK currently doesn’t have any game breakers as yet in their young core. They’re coming but not yet.

Oh boy, lots to unpack here. The kings are just trying to get into the playoffs at this phase, winning isn't the point at this phase, it's getting these young players to understand how playoff games can be won from vets who won 2 cups and made deep runs. The compete window opens in a few years for a cup, but this team needs playoff experience to get to that level. Strong defense is the way for this team historically. Matt Roy is 26, signed to 23-24 to a team-friendly contract and 3rd in ice time for the Kings. Not exactly an old player and there is no one I see on the Kings who can take that role from him until 2-3 years from now in Faber.

I don't know what more value you want the Kings to have, their UFA signings have been strong, they draft efficiently (Matt Roy was a 7th rounder), they have a really deep prospect pool at nearly every position (except elite tier LD), do you honestly think the Kings are better off losing Roy to get Dermott, Miettinen, and a low 1st in a weak draft. Why would the Kings do this?

The Kings have been built specifically to play teams like Edmonton and Vegas, top-heavy teams need to go up against Selke caliber (Kopitar, Danault) centers to leave the fight for the game on depth scoring to the young guns in Byfield and Kaliyev.

I get that you want Matt Roy, but I don't think you understand the direction or current position of the LA Kings.
