The Most Montreal Should Get For Petry

Created by: TheMooterus
Team: 2021-22 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 3, 2022
Published: Feb. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know what some reporters are "rumoring" should be the return for Petry, but the guy has nearly no value right now. He's having the worst season of his career at 34 years old, is signed through his age 37 season, and is making north of $6M per year at a time when the cap is staying flat.

This may be a Dallas ACGM, but NO TEAM should be paying more than a 3rd Round Pick or B-Level Prospect for him. And to the Habs fans I'm sure are going to be angry in the comments, if that's not enough for you then keep him. Not an issue for any team in the league if you want to hold on to that contract.

Man, I can't wait for some darn trades to happen so we can all get a better picture of what's the real player values around the league...... Everyone has wildly varying opinions on virtually everything, the only ones that matter are what ends up actually happening.

Coming off 4 consecutive 40 point seasons with 10+ goals as a smooth skating right-handed shot defensemen but he's only worth a 3rd round pick because he's having a bad 40 games on the worst team in the NHL.

You my friend do not know what you're talking about.

Petry will get a better return than Dunkan Keith.

You are just trashtalking a guy who had a 42 points in 55 games last season.

No, he's trash talking a guy who's had 6 points in 37 games this season. With a salary north of $6M bucks. For the next 3,5 years. At age 34.

Massive difference.

You know nothing:

"from a director of pro scouting about Jeff Petry this season: ‘Still effective at driving play. Can still skate, competes well. Relatively durable. Offense can be dependent on teammates. They haven’t scored much this season, but all signs point to the same guy not scoring in the traditional sense, but still very much positively contributing to this team "

To be fair nothing I've said in my latest statement is factually incorrect.

What he still brings to Montreal as a player, while can be considered as somewhat valuable, is not really affecting the results (otherwise MTL wouldn't be literally at the bottom of the standings). And for a team aiming to be in the playoffs, results matter.

I guess McDavid isn't worth anything since ReSuLtS mAtTeR. Petry was top 3 of a Stanley cup finalist 8 months ago. Here's your result.

You are just deflecting your poor evaluation of Petry as old and overpaid... It's factually incorrect since he's still very good and usefull.

Im not expecting you to be as good as a chef pro scout, just to maybe stop talking **** about a player when provided with a pro's opinion instead of finding a new angle to trash him...

If he didn't score, then yes I agree. But he does. And he does it really well.

When he stopped scoring in the playoffs...you saw what happened. Oilers got destroyed.

So I'm not allowed to criticize a player's statistically poor performance as a fan because a scout or another professional might disagree with me? Lol.

And by the way I never said anything about his performance. I said three non-disputable facts about his statistics, about his age and about his contract.

He had a great year last year. He's had a terrible year this year. All these are backed up by statistics.
