Copp is a UFA after this season...that's a pretty hefty price to pay for a couple of months of him. Don't see how that compares to Coleman, who had a couple of years left.

That's an easy Ranger decline.

I can be wrong but Tampa paid a lot to acquire him at TDL...

Rangers is running after some UFA for the playoff run... that's reported
One Key-Prospect + late 1st for Copp is a addition to compete against both Florida team

Yup, knowing that he'd be a cheap, valuable asset for two playoff runs. You're getting Copp for one...

Change the 1st for a second... the concept is there... and this is the low impact of that post

I hate that Scheifele return. 2 guys with 8 or 10 team no trade lists so Winnipeg is for sure on both their lists.

- Martinez is 35 year old left handed Defenseman when we are already very deep in prospects on left D. You moved Dillon in another trade to make space so that at least 2 of Samberg, Stanley or Heinola can be playing so we still likely need to trade one more Left D. Bringing in a super old guy when you are rebuilding makes no sense and has negative value in my opinion.

- then you get a replacement C with term but he is going to be 30 years old next year and is locked up for 5 more years as his play declines. He's like a 60 point center so an OK 2 C for now but as his offensive production dips into his 30s he likely becomes a low end 2C or maybe a 3C.

- Then you get a first

I would absolutely lose my mind if that is what they did instead of just keeping Scheifele.

I like Nils Lundkvist a lot, but he would still be playing on our third pair, not top pair with JMo. If you don't do the Scheifele deal you can afford to retain on Copp which would make him worth a 1st. We traded 2 -2nds for Dillon 6 months ago so getting Lundqvist for him is a stretch without us adding more.

I can see the Copp addition but not the Dillon. Also Copp will probably cost a first and a mid level prospect not a key one.

Murat Ates of The Athletic on 01/31/2022: (mailbag) If the Winnipeg Jets are out of the playoff race by the trade deadline, they should look at moving any free agent who isn’t in their long-term plans./

Have a feeling that Andrew Copp plans on testing free agency this offseason. Past comparable trades could be when the Detroit Red Wings traded Gustav Nyquist to the San Jose Sharks for second and a conditional third, and the New York Rangers trading Mats Zuccarello to the Dallas Stars for a conditional second and third-round pick.

Here is an exemple of a rental: I know Giroux is a better player but Copp would be perfect fit as they need paper-sand type of player... like Tamba after losing 4 games straight to CBJ

conditional picks are not allowed anymore and Tamba showed everyone that Copp type of player are needed to go big in playoff

Conditional picks are still allowed. The only conditional pick no longer allowed is the "resigning" conditional pick.

NYR are 4-0-0 against Florida teams out scoring them 17-8. Not to say we don’t need to add and be better 5v5 but the concept that we can’t compete against them isn’t exactly accurate.

Oh I am fully in agreement that we need more. Was just pointing out that they can hang with the big boys. CAR seems to have their way with us. The 5v5 needs a lot of improvement.
