Not an easy decline for the Rangers actually, Chytil isn't worth much

Take out Chytil and it is still an easy Rangers decline.

Real question: would these trades even work in the NHL video games?

Minnesota isn't trading boldy 1 for one for boeser much less add a 1st. It's really weird why Canucks fans keep trying to deal boeser to Minnesota

Oh no they don't, now you're just lowballing Miller

Not really. Lundkvist and the first are fine. Add in Kravtsov or a 2nd round pick and that should get you there.

Canucks might take that, but they will need to think it over

Edmonton wants nothing to do with Halak and his bonus-laden contract. Nothing.

I don't think so. But if they did, then the Rangers are doing more than strongly accepting Chytil, Othmann, Lundqvist and a first

No chance Rangers give up Othmann or Schneider in a Miller deal. Krav or Chytil, Lundqvist, 1st and 2nd is probably the most they would get.

Oilers probably don't touch this deal. Halak has bonus money coming due and that will affect next year's cap, which is already really tight.

True, but 1) it's not that much and will mostly be covered by the stated cap increase, 2) it's certainly less than the savings they'd get this season, which might allow them to swing another deal ahead of the TDL/playoffs & 3) most importantly, it increases their chances of winning this season, which they are suuuuuuper desperate to do.

I really think they'd take it happily. But, ya know, I've been wrong before and surely will be again.

1) they've already spent the stated cap increase and can't afford any more dead money on the books. They want to be competitive next year too.
2) this is true.
3) Halak with 2 wins this season is the answer? I don't think so.

If anything they're looking for a starter, not another backup. Koskinen puts up just as good numbers if he isn't overworked, I'm sure Halak would experience similar declines if suddenly asked to play 62% of the games.

1- Fair enough.

3- Compared to what they have now? And compared to the cost of getting a bona fide starter? Well....

Besides, I never said Halak would automatically be a Price-level #1. The Oil could go with a hot-hand system pairing him with Kosko.

And by the way, I saw Kosko play several times in person when he was still with SKA. I've always felt folks were too hard on him. The thing with him is, he's so massive, he needs to be on a team that doesn't allow so much side-to-side passing and open rebounds. If you let him face up to shots and clear trash, he's a strong and reliable goalie. If you're always making him rush post to post, not so much. The Oilers have seemingly never understood this. At all.

Not in this case - Koskinen is going the other way.

Agreed. I always thought Tippett was a good defensive systems coach when he was in Arizona, but I haven't seen that with any of his Edmonton teams.

1- Oof... I meant Smith.

1) The trouble with that is Smith's injury record. The Oilers need someone who can potentially carry the mail, because he likely will have to.
2) yup
