Because he is the better player? And Kaprisov needs a center? Just because a player gets hot for 10 games doesn't mean is worth more then a player that's been a PPG all year, The wild would be much better with a capable Center core, Eriksson ek is decent but is better suited for 2nd line center duties, this deal doesnt do anything for Vancouver so there is no reason for us to do it so it's a moot point
Why would they go out to get Kaprizov a new center? That's some Chuck Fletcher thinking there like when Neiderreiter/Haula/Pominville were playing great up to the trade deadline 4 or 5 years ago and so Fletcher went out and spent a bunch of picks getting Martin Hanzal and proceeded to screw up the roster's chemistry.
Kaprizov/Hartman/Zuccarello has been a productive line all season, chemistry is good and all 3 players are producing. Obviously you could find a better center than Hartman but then you risk that center not clicking with Kaprizov/Zucc or Hartman not clicking with his new linemates and that seems silly so zero reason to tinker with that line.
Greenway/Ek/Foligno hasn't had a 5v5 goal scored against them the entire season and have been given the tough matchups every night. In addition to being an elite shutdown line, they're scoring at a good enough rate to not mess with the line so zero reason to tinker with this line also.
Fiala/Gaudreau/Boldy has seen Fiala and Boldy producing since they were put together and generating a ton of scoring chances. It isn't a matter of Fiala suddenly getting hot, it's a matter of him finally being given a player who has skill on his line instead of the usual linemates he's been expected to carry (Rask, Marjo, Bjugstad, etc). Gaudreau is an offensive blackhole and would make the team better if he was dropped down to the 4RW spot which in turn would push someone like Rask or Dewar into the pressbox.
As for doing nothing for Vancouver, Miller is a UFA after next season and if they don't trade him they risk losing him for nothing if he wants to go to a team primed for a Cup run. Fiala is a RFA this summer so they could extend him for a longer term contract so they actually have a player on their roster past next summer. It's certainly possible Vancouver gets a better offer somewhere else and if so they should take it, but to act like them swapping Miller for Fiala is a tragedy for Vancouver is ignoring the situation they're actually in. If you're going to lose a player for nothing, you absolutely take the best offer available and if it's Fiala, there are certainly worse situations to be in than having a top 6 scoring winger.
