GMKD will probably in that drafts utilize our 2022 1st and trade down to get more quantity as from picks 25-90 players usually have the same ceilings and if you scout effectively you can find hidden gems in those parts of the draft

Severson will drive you insane. You do not want him. Better options are available.

Severson is an upgrade over Dermott. But is he worth Dermott, 2nd round prospect (2020), 1st round and 2nd round pick ?? Absolutely not, IMO. Salary retention or not.

Use Jake Muzzin 2019 trade as a comp. That will get you to where you'd need to be value-wise.

As for what types of pieces Devils would look for, the Devils GM did speak the other day about his game-plan for trade deadline and he said:



I took that as he will be looking for young (age 19-22) players as opposed to picks and prospects. Guys he would except on roster in near-term (this year or next). Guys I see on Leafs that kind of fit that description: Sandin, Liljegren, Robertson...maybe Dermott, Engvall who a little older...or maybe guys like Steeves, Amirov, Abramov, Kral if they are NHL ready. That probably excludes some of the college guys or younger prospects. And de-emphasizes the picks.

Therefore we're so reluctant to entertain the idea of not re-signing him, or at the earliest, moving him before 2023 TDL.

I think it’s due to the system the Devils play. Leafs are far more defensively sound and aware. NJD is young and a lot of their forwards are defensively responsible as yet
