You're in range for Toffoli. Valimaki might not be necessary.

Won't get Toffoli with just picks.

Picks and lesser prospects should be fine. Really don't think you should expect a better return than what Reinhart or JT Miller (to Vancouver) got

Maybe something along the lines of 1st + Poirier

Certainly debatable, but I'd say Poirier is the wrong choice if the prospect is on the other side of the 1st. Even Ruzicka would be preferable, I just don't think that's enough.

Miller and Reinhart raised their value after being traded by motivated sellers.
Toffoli was previously traded for a 2nd and Madden and has raised his value since, while his contract is added value in a flat cap, and Montreal is under no pressure to move him.

A 1st and decent prospect or good prospect and 2nd are both possibilities, but whoever is offered has to be enticing enough to open Montreal to the idea of trading Toffoli at all. They can get a 1st anywhere. They can only get Zary from Calgary.

Current Miller is far better than current Toffoli. Miller when he played 3C on Tampa is similar to current Toffoli.
Im also not talking about PPG Reinhart. Reinhart was the 2nd best forward on Buffalo the last half decade, he's always been a very solid player.

Why are you bringing up Toffoli's last trade? Thats unrelated entirely.

Ruzicka is like Jake Evans, a decent young depth center. He wont peak much higher than he currently is, Poirier has a much higher ceiling

When a player is traded once, then improves in performance, it stands to reason they would get a higher return the next time they are traded.
Miller would get more now than then as well. When he was traded to Vancouver it was as a cap casualty. Tampa could have held out for a better offer without that pressure, which is why Montreal can possibly extract more from a Toffoli trade. They have no need to move him.

I mean sure, but the trades are completely unrelated. Do you think when Arizona traded for Hall his value was effected by his previous trade? No its simply based off their current performace, as well as contract situation and such.

I think you should drop the idea of bringing up the first Toffoli trade all together because it doesnt mean anything.

I am also not saying Montreal needs to move him or if I think they should. All I am saying is that Toffoli as a player very likely does not return a top 50 prospect in the league if traded. Because as history shows from players traded at similar calibers, they did not return such prospect

Toffoli's first trade was also a rental, whereas now he is signed to a team friendly deal with term. His value has definitely gone up.

Is Zary a top 50 prospect? (Genuine question)

It's entirely possible Toffoli doesn't return what I expect, I just don't think he'll be traded unless he does.
Like I said, if the best single piece you can offer is a 1st, any team can beat that fairly easily.
If the next best single piece you can offer is Poirier, any team can beat that fairly easily as well.
There's no reason to believe Calgary would get Toffoli with a 1st and Poirier, so you'd have to do better to make it more plausible.

Zary was just ranked 40th on the hockey waters mid-season rankings.

I think you are focused a bit to much on Calgary here. If Montreal doesnt want to trade Toffoli thats fine. If they do shop him I just dont see teams offering what you want
