Description
I figured it would be fun to see what would be possible if we went all in to win a cup next season. The Gaudreau signing probably isn't going to happen and like I said in the trade comments, I have no idea what Compher's worth. However, I would like to get Reilly and Roy anyway, despite this being a win-now ACGM. I used to see Roy all the time in the minors and he seemed like the perfect fit for Trotz's system, defensively responsible and able to contribute offensively.

Lol Beauvillier for Compher would be just as bad as the Toews trade

You guys have no cap space, teams know that so the return won't be as good as you'd expect

I mean, VGK is already up against the cap with a grand total of 14 guys signed for next season. Without making some huge moves, they're going to have to probably try and replace their UFA/RFA guys with guys on their ELCs. The other 31 GMS also know this and aren't gonna go out of their way to help bail McCrimmon out.

I’m tired of this narrative. Especially on a guy that has arbitration. Roy is literally one of the last guys to go. He is dirt cheap this year.

Gaudreau is getting $9.5-$10M, Isles cannot afford him.

Why would Czarnik, a AHL forward get $1M?

Beau trade as mentioned already is not good for the Isles.

“Bail out”….lol. These are useable pieces here, if a GM thinks they can make their team better, they are going to do it. When an asset has value to multiple teams, it doesn’t matter what our cap situation is, it’s a supply and demand thing. Smith and Dadanov are VERY useable pieces, smith being a rental will appeal to AtLeast a dozen teams. I’m so tired of the GMs won’t help Vegas narrative, they are helping themselves. This isn’t a long contract with jacked up salary. Come on….

Why take a guy that's 9 years older? Roy does the same things as Clutter and can play center or wing, he can fill that role perfectly and still has the potential to move into the top 6

Compher is worth around a 3rd imo. Colorado would definitely need to add and would probably be happy to do so.

I will say that I think Beauvillier is overrated on this site. He's good, but it's not like he's not 22 years old. And he still hasn't shown he can be much more than a good, but not amazing, middle six player. I wouldn't add much more than a 2nd personally, as I think there will likely be other options.

Smith is a UFA after this year and wouldn't affect next season's cap(also I'm not even sure if you'd *want* to trade him at the deadline this year, seeing as he's one of VGK's top scorers plus he's an "original" Golden Knight" on a team with Cup aspirations). Dadonov has been fine, but nothing special, and an extra year at $5M + his 10 team NTC is going to make him slightly more difficult to move (and if you just got traded from the basement in Ottawa to a Cup contender in Vegas, wouldn't *you* try your best to stick around and not get moved?)

Even if you find a way to move Dadonov before next season, now you're looking at a team with 13 players under contract and just Dadonov's $5M in cap space. You've got Nicolas Hague, Brett Howden, Nicolas Roy, Kolesar, Miromanov, and Brooks as RFAs looking at raises (not to mention trying to replace Smith & Janmark). It might take more than a 4th/6th combo, but you're not getting the Devon Toews deal (2 2nds). If a team really wants him, all they have to do is sign him to a $3.5-4M offer sheet, and he's theirs for just a 2nd.

Beauvillier is a lot better than a middle 6 Forward. Here's how he compared to the Avs forwards last season:
EH EVO (even strength offense) metric:
Rantanen: 9.7
Beauvillier: 7.7
MacKinnon:7.5
Burakovsky: 5.1
Landeskog: 4.1

WAR (Wins above replacement )
Rantanen: 3
MacKinnon:2.3
Burakovsky: 1.8
Landeskog: 1.6
Beauvillier: 1.5

19-20 season
EVO
Burakovsky: 7.6
Beauvillier: 6
Rantanen: 2.2
Landeskog: 0.3

WAR:
Beauvillier: 2.1
Landeskog: 1.2
Rantanen: 1
Burakovsky: 1

At this point, he's settled in as a 15-20 goal guy who plays enough defense to be a solid LW2. I think he'd be in over his head on most teams top lines, but he's not a bottom 6 guy either.

I can agree with the idea that he might be overrated because that kinda profile is great when he's on his ELC, or has a $2.1M AAV - but now that Beau has a $4.15M hit, he's a little less attractive a piece going forward.

I could see Beau-Compher being a one-for-one swap to see if giving a change of scenery helps both guys out, but I also think it's not necessarily a trade that needs to happen on either end.

Beauvilliers impact over the last 3 seasons has been that of a fringe top line forward. He was on pace for 26 goals last season and on pace for over 20 the season before, saying he has settled in as a 15-20 goal guy is misleading

Do you realize that Compher is a 4th liner and Beau has been a fringe top line guy the past 3 years? Trading Beau for Compher 1 for 1 is like trading Barzal for Charlie Coyle straight up.

I'm not putting him down. Like I said, he's good. He's just not a top line player (hence middle six). It's kind of the same with Nichushkin. He's excellent in his role but not a top line player.

In a vacuum, he's worth adding more than a 2nd as I stated above. But the result for Colorado would be letting someone else walk (likely Burakovsky) due to added cap from Beauvillier. That's why I wouldn't go crazy. And I wouldn't trade Girard for him, as is a popular take on this site. Feel free to disagree, but that's where I'm coming from.

Middle 6 is a guy who fits well on a 3rd line but can fill in on the 2nd line when needed. Beauvillier has been a high end 2nd line forward for the past 3 years by every offensive and defensive metric. He’s been just as good as Landeskog during that time and I’m sure you consider landeskog a top line F

This reminds me of when most fans considered Devon Toews an average 2nd pairing D when his underlying numbers on the islanders showed he had a top pair impact

You're right that 2nd liner is a better description. I'll concede there. He's not as good as Landy though, and has never been close to a point per game player. Would that change with more pp time? Yeah probably. But he's still not a top line guy in my eyes.

On Toews, I was never in that camp. I was the Avs fan who was convincing everyone we just got a huge steal when they acquired him. While I like Beau a lot, I just don't see him in quite the same manner.

Fwiw, Isles are my second favorite team, so I am a fan and watch them more than most. I have been wrong in my assessment of players many times before, and perhaps I am here too. I just call it how I see it though.

Edit: Isles shouldn't trade him either. He's worth more to them than he would be to Colorado.

And Beauvillier is on pace for 15 goals this year. I think 15-20 is more likely his future outcome than 20-25, but if you want to split hairs like that, we can say he's more-or-less a 20 goal scorer. Which is Fine for your LW2.

You're also downgrading Compher here. He's actually scoring at a better pace than Beauvillier this season, and his most common linemates have been Kadri & Burakovsky on the Avs' second line. He's a right-hand shot who can also take faceoffs, so he gives a little more positional flexibility than Beauvillier. Lastly, he's got one more year at $3.5M AAV versus the 2 more @ $4.15M that Beauvillier has, which can give some more future flexibility to a team that is going to need to re-sign Barzal & Wahlstrom after next season - it's not a huge thing, but it's part of the calculus.

Saying that a Beau-Compher deal would be the same as trading Barzal for Coyle leans into exactly what someone said upthread about people overvaluing Beauvillier (with an added dash of undervaluing Compher).

I'm not saying Beauvillier is on the same level as Toews, just that their underlying numbers show they are a lot better than most fans think they are. If Beauvillier got traded to the Avs, he'd have a Burakovsky type breakout in terms of points, but his underlying numbers would be the same. The only difference would be he'd get to play with better linemates so people would say he found his game in Colorado.

I can't disagree with anything you say here. In fact, I think you're probably right that I'm selling him short here. I've always liked Beauvillier and would love to have him. I just wouldn't trade Girard for him. That's probably where my "overrated" perception stems from. If Lou would do Compher plus though, then I'm all about it.
