Helping Vegas

Created by: robrob10
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 8, 2022
Published: Feb. 8, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wild make this trade now to facilitate Vegas's need for cap. They then hope to flip Smith at TDL if they can't be cap compliant. Giving up alot, but Stephenson would be a good fit for our 2C role. Wild could keep Stephenson beyond this year with some other maneuvering because he has a pretty good cap hit 2.75M for 2 additional seasons.

I dont think it makes sense for us to give Vegas this years 1st AND one of our top prospects so they can add Eichel to the lineup... that wouldnt be smart on our part. Id say vegas is going to have to pay to move smith.

I could see it being like Dewar and a first for Stephenson, but they can't take on a contract like Smith's unless they got someone like buffalo involved to retain, in which they could have Vegas give the pick to retain.

I don’t see any way we move Stephenson, but if we did, this is what I’d expect for a return

If Vegas trades Stephenson (which I don't think they will) he's worth as much as what it would take to acquire rentals (Hertl, Giroux, Pavelski, or even JT Miller). It would take a package similar to what I layed out to get one of those guys. Stephenson and his contract are as good a gamble as any one of those rentals.

You are trading for Reilly Smith because? We are literally stacked and filled @ Wingers. Reilly Smith is a cap dump and Winger we don't need

Okay so Lambos and 1st for Stephenson, then id say for Smith and his 5M cap hit, Vegas would be giving up a 3/4th and we would send back a 7th maybe? The key is that they HAVE to trade smith (or somebody similar) and there arent going to be teams that are willing to pay for him knowing this.

if they move Dadanov then its going to cost them even more to get rid of him though. 2 years at 5.1M mid season theres not a ton of options for that.

One thing is the NMC's in play on a lot of players. Smith and Stephenson are free of NMC's. Dadonov has the ability to list a 10 team no-trade list. Janmark is also free of NMC's.

Agreed. Getting Stephenson isn't enough to make me want to help Vegas with their cap situation
