Staios has participated in the Leafs development camp, wouldn’t mind seeing them offer him an AHL deal

Not sure how good the source they're quoting is but why? We literally just drafted Mailloux too ( different GM but still), pretty sure I'd much rather have a Russian then Mailloux on my team

That doesn’t sound assuring. Imagine being drafted in the top ten and your draft comparable is Alex Kerfoot

I think it’s a terrible comparison lol. I think he’s more like Trocheck. He’ll be a high end 2C or solid 1RW IMO. Pronman projects him to be a 3C that could potentially play on the 2nd line

to me this is dumb, why should a 18 y.o. Russian guy be punished for something bad that their government is doing that they have no control over, unless they are supporting the war there shouldn't be a problem with drafting them and they also make sure that they actually support the war or if they are just saying that they do because they don't want to "disappear under mysterious circumstances"

Because the Kremlin has access to every bank account in Russia: as soon as one of those kids signs for American dollars, that money gets funneled into the war effort with or without their consent.

I still think it's more virtue signalling than anything but there's some justification in doing it.

good point I didn't think of that, maybe they could just get paid in cash? or get a NA bank account?

Not saying I agree with the take but Kerfoot isnt a bad player. Now when they had him as the 3c those first 2 years yeah not great

But 53 points with 0 PP time since then aint bad.

Cause if Nazar is this version of Kerfoot but gets PP time easily 70+ point player

So if thats his lowest ceiling not bad. As it could be worse could say hes gonna be comparable to Kakko or something

I mean, his scouting reports are usually pretty good, and I do believe he has close relationships with probably most high ranking scouts for teams. That said, some of his rankings are very weird, and because this is his first time doing comparables, most of them suck lol (although at least he tailed off quickly, it’s more realistic to say you’re gonna get a Ryan Donato type at 25oa than a Cale Makar type like many draft experts that do comparables claim). I don’t hate the Nash/Zibby/Point comparables for Slaf/Wright/Cooley, although given that he’s also factoring in upside, it does make you question why Cooley shouldn’t be going ahead of Wright (if you think you’re getting Nash at 1oa that’s a fine pick, but Point>>Zibanejad, and Point vs. Nash is close, with Point maybe getting the edge due to position). I did think that comparing Nazar to Kerfoot, Kemell to Arvidsson, Lambert to Burakovsky, and Geekie to D. Strome were odd choices though.

Stankoven season ended last night, finishing the year with 62 goals and 135 points in 76 games and this massive hit.

Going to be fun watching him in Dallas

Lost in the tie breaker game in the semis. That could be the same fate to Bourque and Johnston, they're playing today.

He's going to be Robo and Hintz's RW.

Johnston: 1st in OHL points this year for regular season and playoffs (so far).

Stankoven: 3rd in WHL points (#1 P/GP) and 1st in WHL points (for now, will probably be overtaken next round).

Bourque: 1st in QMJHL P/GP, 4th in QMJHL points in the playoffs.

All went to the semis, and so far only Stankoven lost (in game 7).

Pretty good year by Stars prospects in the CHL.

I can't tell if this is just anti-Pronman sentiment or anti-Athletic sentiment, but I've historically found that in terms of predicting the outcome of a draft, The Bobfather and Scott Wheeler are usually the closest and Pronman comes in third. Like him or not, he's very much in the loop and a name worth reading imo

Something I noticed with these rankings especially is how contrarian they appear to be: we've operated the entire season under almost one specific paradigm and his ideas in his latest publication don't conform to this "established" consensus that the hockey world has been operating out of this season.

A big part of me wonders if this is the first year we see a real clash between what we've been sold by the media circus that surrounds the draft and what we actually saw from this season: names like Wright, Lambert, and McGroarty went into this class as can't miss top-three selections. There's a chance that only Wright is picked in the first round this season (slim, but possible) while names like Slafkovsky, Jiricek, and Cooley supplant everything we knew going into draft day.

Personally, I'm waiting for Wheeler's final rankings before I make any accusatory remarks by way of Pronman.
