Quoting: SevenLeg
What good is a 40 games sample size of a player in a #1D spot on an awful team? Is Klingberg better than Chychrun as well because he's having a better season? Historically, first pairing guys are always taking a hit stats-wise when they're on lottery teams, especially those with little-to-no help to share the workload. Reminds me of when a few years ago people thought Drew Doughty was only good for sheltered 2nd pair duties anymore.
From 2019-2022, the Stars are 14th in the league in xGF (Habs are 19th), Stars are 17th in GF% (Habs are 26th), Stars are 20th in GF/60 (Habs are 21st)
Benn's downfall was precipitated because his power forward playstyle. It happens to all of them - Ladd, Lucic, Okposo, etc. Petry's downfall is not physical like typical declining defensemen in their mid-30s à la Phaneuf, it's due to decision making. He moves as well as ever and if it were my first glance at hockey without knowing anything, I'd have said he's a 26-year-old defenseman.
Your Chychrun comparison is really far fetched, he’s going to be 24 and Petry’s 34. That’s a major difference.
Look we aren’t getting anywhere with this argument so I’ll give you a deal:
If Petry continues playing like he did this year on either Montreal or the team he potentially gets traded to, I’ll win/be right.
If Petry starts playing like he did last year on either Montreal or the team he potentially gets traded to, you’ll win/be right.
If Blake Comeau produces better than Petry next season you delete your account.
If Blake Comeau gets signed to Petry’s current contract I’ll delete mine.
Do we have a deal?
