Deal. I’ll bury you myself for that return.
(I’d probably take that for the Devils)

The emergence of Siegenthaler has made a Graves deal much more possible. It was hard to imagine a few months ago.
I imagine this is the type of return he would get. Something like....

A 1st or good prospect
A 3rd or lesser prospect
Maybe another pick for retention
Maybe contract dump plus whatever addition is needed to take it

So pretty much the exact deal proposed?

Hmm. That's a thinker, but I'd probably go ahead and do it. From a distance it seems like Graves has slumped this season, but I think it's just New Jersey's poor finishing and save % that is throwing some of his numbers off.

I agree. I'd much rather send a package like this for Graves, who would be a welcomed addition to our top-4 and is signed at a reasonable price through next season, rather than sending "the farm" for the likes of Chychrun or Lindholm. Him and Colt 55 would take up sooo much space with their size.

I don't think Lindholm requires anywhere near a Chych package. Probably almost the same as Graves would fetch, really.

Of course, the Devils might be much more willing to deal at this particular moment. Lindholm we would need to wait on a little bit, with the Ducks kinda hanging around the edge of the playoff spots.

100% agree. Lindholm would be huge for this seasons push, but knowing he'll likely walk in free agency makes me a bit uneasy. That's why if we could land Graves with another year on his contract, plus the possibility of re-signing him to a reasonable AAV is very appealing to me.

Why would he be likely to walk?

I'd imagine he'll command an AAV and/or term amount the GMDA wouldn't offer him at the end of this season, especially considering Mikkola's and Scotty P's development.

I cant see the Devs moving their top D. They finally starting getting things in place. The C position is set and the top of the D as well. Apparently Fitz was looking to add Graves for a bit, so unless he wants out (he might I guess) they wont move him. Him and Hamilton were creating good chemistry before the broken jaw. This move would screw up the top pairing. The value is there but is it worth it? The Devs need to start winning with players not building with picks. This rebuild is on its 2/3 round and its 5/9 yrs old depending on who you ask in Devs world.

Hmm. Honestly I don't see why not. If they are going to deal for him, it won't be for just a few months (if they can help it).

All is true. And I doubt Graves is ever moved. But the counter-argument to this: (a) between their two 2023 UFA d-men, Severson may be the priority to re-sign, (b) Graves deal ends in two years when we expect Hughes and Mukhamadullin to arrive (maybe Misyul too), (c) the emergence of Siegenthaler, who is now playing top-pair minutes when they expected him to be 3rd pair, (d) Bahl and Okhotiuk may be getting close to ready and play similar style to Graves.

If we get to this point next year, and Siegenthaler and Smith are both playing well, and one of Bahl/Okhotiuk are ready, Graves could be on the market, but at lower price.

In other words, I don't think a Graves trade is happening....but I am not completely ruling it out.

Agree on all but those youngsters have to pan out. The fact that many of our LHD are comfortable on the right side gives Fitz some room. I had no idea Muk Bahl, and Okhot all played the right. I feel much better. I am still concerned that Smith is Butcher 2.0, I dont think he is but the eye test lately says otherwise!

Butcher could never move. Couldn't get around shot blockers. Couldn't close gaps defensively. It is like he aged quickly.
I think Smith has all the skills, skating, etc...and he is 21 years old.
I am not worried at all.
