Sakic would never do this. Avs fans need to accept that we don’t need a big priced rental when we already have a cup contending team. Don’t throw away our future players for half a season of somebody who would make us go from cup contenders to cup contenders. This team we have right now can win a cup

Red Wings likely re-sign Namestnikov before the trade deadline.

Far too much going to the Flyers in that trade. Value for Namestnikov is probably fair as it's likely a late third and he's fetched a 4th the last two years. So 3rd/4th if they let him go after a cup.

With Byram? Yeah, absolutely. Without him? Need to address a top-4 D. As for Giroux, this is the year to go all in. Next year, one or more of Kadri, Burakovsky, Nichushkin, Kuemper, and Francouz are gone. The team's going to look VERY different. Not saying we should deal everyone in the G trade, but if you can get him without dealing Barron or Olausson? Yeah, I'm game.

My prediction on Giroux is that they'll trade for him if he pulls a Taylor Hall and says, "I'll only accept a trade to Colorado." That will bring his price way, way down to something Sakic would be willing to pay. But I feel like it's pretty well-established he doesn't do big trades like this in-season. If he did, he'd have no capital to use during the off-season when the real good deals are there to be had. I know lots of fans think going after Giroux at a price like this is worth it but deals like this rarely result in putting teams over the top. I imagine he will go after some bottom-six help and maybe some D depth but this is a good team as-is and Sakic builds the team during the off-season. The Goodrow and Coleman situation was unique and I don't see something like that happening for the Avs or any other team.
