Leafs Next Year Includes 22 TDL

Created by: KMarner10
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2022
Published: Feb. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Campbell could sign for more or less, but I think $5M is a good estimate.

This team is good enough to be top 3 in the division until the TDL, where they will need a top 6 fwd (Timo Meier?), depth defenseman, and a solid backup goalie who can take the load off Campbell going into the playoffs.

Oh boy. Lots to dig into here.
    1. If Sandin is good, why is he signing for so little with such term? Why not go one or two years?
    2. Why is Dallas giving up hakanpaa, and retaining salary for multiple years to get dermott?
    3. Don’t know what the heck that arizona thing is.
    4. Why is seattle paying for all of Toronto’s trash?
    5. We keep hearing about how Campbell should be in the vezina conversation. Why is he signing that?
    6. Why is edmonton, or anyone for that matter doing toronto a favor by taking on mrazek?

With the way Campbell is playing right now his value might be decreasing.

I've heard this a few times. What is it? Anyways, there is a decent chance that Holland is on his way out.

You might be right about Holland being axed.

Basically when Mrazek was an RFA in Detroit he took Holland to Arbitration. They settled at the last minute but it pissed Kenny off.

He started slandering Mrazek to the Detroit media and essentially blamed him for each Red Wings loss (through Blashill). He left Mrazek unprotected in the expansion Draft and protected the washed up Jimmy Howard.

Vegas took Tomas Nosek instead. Kenny later traded Mrazek to Philly for next to nothing.

    1. It's essentially a bridge deal. He hasn't shown that he is worth above $2M, but you can sign this deal for 2 years if you want.
    2. Hakanpaa is does not give much offensively, but he is decent defensively. He is worth just more than a third. Dermott is worth about a third, and he can either be flipped or DAL can see if he is a good fit.
    3. Pretty much just assets that could be used at the '22 TDL, nothing special.
    4. Ritchie is really the only trash there. Kerfoot is worth more than a second at this point in time, and Holl is probably worth a late 3rd-early 4th. Holl would automatically become a shutdown man for them, he might just need a change of scenery, but he has been noticeably better in 2022.
    5. Campbell should not be in the vezina conversation. Markstrom just got 6x6 contract and he is better, yesterday was evident of that. As much as I like him, I think he is overrated and now that he is getting less protection than before, it is showing.
    6. Mrazek has been getting calls. And the value for a goalie with term at a somewhat cheap price is through the roof, the only issue with Mrazek is his health. If had not gotten injured at the start of the year, he would be worth a second most likely. Edmonton does not have enough money to sign a guy like Kuemper, Fleury probably doesn't want to sign there, and Edmonton should be willing to give that up for a decent starter.

We do you believe "teams have calling about Mrzarek". Do you just want to believe? Last couple of months, Campbell play has declined, Mrzarek just might be better value for the Leafs next year.
    What is that Dallas trade?

How much cap space does Edmonton have?
They will be over by 1.5 million.

If they do this they have to lose either Kieth, Barrie, Kassian, Ceci, Foegele, or Yamamoto.

Koskinen is a UFA. But good luck finding a sucker for Kassian's contract.

JP and Yamamoto will get Mikko's money plus some.
We have Skinner to start next year. And Smith......
Konovalov as well has been playing with men for 5 years now.

Kassian's NHL career is almost over. Concussion after concussion.
Long term injury or bury him.
Either way I am good with

Do you think Broberg will be on the team next season? I recall him being drafted after Detroit took Seider.
