Outside Perspective on the Leafs

Created by: yycofred
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2022
Published: Feb. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
That's a top 5 team no doubt. Good teams come to the Saddledome and have extremely long boring nights but the Leafs still played a high skill, fast pace game despite a Darryl Sutter system and getting goalie'd.

That being said, there were certainly some points in that game that the Leafs got bullied which lead to big momentum swings, I know it's often said that they need a bruiser to stop that kind of stuff but I think that you put a guy like that in a line up as good as Toronto's and he looks lost. I think they should try replicate the Tampa deadline from a couple years back,, get guys that play 200ft games, physical but not necessarily the enforcer type that we see proposed here so often. I think that just fits the Leafs system batter, please tell me where I am wrong!

***I am so far from familiar with values for Leaf players so please correct me where I am wrong***

Alright, I'll bite. Was going to let this go.

Clarify what "being bullied which lead to big momentum swings? After the whistle scrums, hits, what?

Where did I talk about hits/60 and them becoming and team that dominates in hits?? His comment can be bang on elsewhere sure, but wildly misguided and sensitive here

It's a common thought on here that TO isn't tough enough, they don't have grit or hit enough. He made a good point that other top teams like Colorado don't hit much either. Hitting doesn't really matter like people think it does. Calgary Hitting didn't win the game. Campbell didn't have the best game and Markstrom was nuts. The last time Calgary played TO it was the same thing. The Flames run around hitting everything that moves but TO dominated the play. If it wasn't for Markstrom last night and Vlader the first game, both games would have been blow outs. Hits or no hits

Phew, good thing that I didn't talk about hits then! As mentioned in the description, Leafs go absolutely goalie'd I don't know who you are arguing with on that point.
Flames threw 18 hits last night, that's well below the league average and really in line with the Leafs average on the season so you we can ramble about hits all you like but there is nothing in this post regarding that.

How about we answer part one first. Why are you skipping over the main question here..

Are you big enough to admit how insanely weird your comment was in this post? Who said hits/60 anywhere?

Heavy in corners, heavy in front of the net, locking down the middle of the ice, keeping Toronto from exposing seams, having them cycle the perimeter. Dangerous areas of the ice were hard to get to, Calgary plays a heavier game not a hit everything that moves game. Two of the top 5 teams in hits per game are 2 of the worst 5 teams in the league, your point has zero relevance to what is being asked in the thread, it's not even close.

The Leafs have been a puck possession team ever since Keefe took over. They would rather be team that would keep the puck and regroup rather than dump it in and forecheck. Engvall is one of the most underappreciated FWD's on this Leafs team. Moving him for Lehkonen is such a lateral move.

You've given up a first and three 2nds for two ufa's and an rfa that they would have to choose between him or Kase. Which you have on the bench for Järnkrok. Why on earth would they be givng this much up and not getting a top 6 game changer (Hertl, Giroux). Like how is this post not to be taken other than a troll. Do BETTER

Edit:

I mean literally everyone else was able to grasp what the post was, read the description, provide a conversation and go back and forth. Even some of the harshest critics on this site like the Canuck guy and London from Jared, there was a conversation because as you can tell by the description, that's all people are looking for. There is one outlier here and it's the goof ball screeching about hits/60 without understanding anything going on around him. Get your head out of the clouds. You're done cause you're wrong, had a wildly misguided comment and can't say "hey yeah, I am big enough to admit that I came in here ranting about something I misunderstood, my bad" which is fine, you seem young so I can understand that inability to man up here.

How about amirov and a 2nd with condition that leafs make 2nd round. It's less likely to happen than if they go to the final

Leafs aren't giving up Amirov for Lehk.....I love Lehk but he's not worth that.

I guess the point of getting two 200 foot players at the expense of a 200 foot player and a 3rd pair defenceman is just shifting deck chairs under the "the leafs can't handle physicality".

Ridiculous statement. He's a good player, that's the point. You don't trade good players ahead of the playoffs.

And yet TO dominated the chances, shots and possession? They didn't get out muscled anywhere on the ice. They got goalied.

Nah, you are just playing to the "the leafs suck because they don't have grit!" Nothing from that game proves anything.

Also the last line just reads like you are a mid 20's bro showing some young kid how to be tough. That says way more about you than anything else. None of it good. But I am sure you'll say I'm young as well and "will need to toughen up kiddo".

I think the descriptions starts with "That's a top 5 team, no doubt" You twist whatever you want to twist. That's far from what I said, you know that, I know that and if you'd like to continue down that path go for it. There is plenty in this thread that refutes exactly what you're saying above, not my job to spoon feed it to you.

I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment, but I'm just not sure if these are the guys.

Fair, from this post I think that Lehkonen would cost too much and not move the needle enough, Jarnkrok similar. Who would you target?
