We'll take Shea Weber's contract too, while you're sending us your scraps!

Rangers pass.

Start talking Toffoli and Lafreniere in the same deal and you'll get further. It fits both teams needs better - you haven't offered anything to New York of value or of skill really.

good luck with that, at this point even Holland probably isnt dumb enough to trade a 1st for a guy who cant defend

This is a speculatory post by a Fansided writer. They don't have intel like insiders do, they just hear rumors and report on them, then add their own editorial spin.

However...

Option A I could maybe get behind if it's 1st overall, though even I will admit Montreal should not do that.

Options B and C are just straight up insulting to the Rangers.

Since when having 7.5M$ available on LTIR to go over the cap for 4 years is considered scrap?

Considering it does absolutely nothing for a team, it's scrap.

In what world is Toffoli a core piece for a Laf trade?

This is a really bad offer for lafreniere. One of those players might be a depth nhl player at best and the first will be at best 20th overall.

Rangers have reportedly said that if Lafreniere can't play the right side in the top 6 that they don't see him fitting in long term. So they're obviously looking for a guy to fit in their top 6 on the right side - which Toffoli fits. Toffoli's been one of the better goal scorers in the league over the last few seasons while playing responsible defence. He's on a steal of a contract (if he was a UFA this summer he'd be over $7M AAV easily), and he has term left.

You're likely thinking Lafreniere has extreme value because he was a 1st overall pick and has untapped potential - unfortunately where a player was drafted has absolutely no affect on his value. Value is determined by a players performance and where their team sees them fitting into their future plans. So with Lafreniere's lack of performance and reported now fitting in long term, that definitely means he's available.

Toffoli is an ideal fit for the Rangers so they may see it as a guy that fits their need currently and long term thus being extremely valuable to them. I said a deal would likely start around Toffoli and Lafreniere, both sides would likely add but the base of a trade of Lafreniere for Toffoli makes a ton of sense for both sides.

I remember Dreger saying last year that the Rangers would not trade the leafs Georgiev for Sandin 1for1. Your package probably can't get Georgiev, let alone Lafreniere. Habs fans actually think Poehling still has value.

It definitely does not make sense for both sides. If Lafreniere is the cost in a package, Rangers will just go and give that up for JT Miller instead.

Actually they likely wouldn't.

As mentioned, New York wants someone to play the right side in their top 6. Miller does not do that.

All these fans that think that Lafreniere has extremely high value need a wake up call. They're only basing that on the potential that they think he has. But he hasn't performed well at all in his time in the league and he doesn't seem to fit into New York's long term plans - both factors decrease his value.

This isn't EA sports. In the real world, much more factors come into play than just potential. Any team acquiring Lafreniere is taking a huge risk that he MIGHT turn it around, but there's no track record saying he would.

as a leafs fan
id love to have chiarot. very good in the playoffs
but as a leafs fan
i doubt dubas trades a first for a rental this year, after last year
if they were to do that and lose in the first round again i see him being fired

but if they trade it for a non rental with term, he has more chances
