Thats the only offer ive ever seen for Ehlers thats made be pause and genuinely consider it, but ultimately I pass. Ehlers is such a unique player, that transition skill is so coveted. Also doesnt help that while talented both Kakko and Chytil have had their growth stagnate, and the Jets arent exactly a strong development team.

I was also thinking about Wheeler at 50% salary for prospect group

Detroit passes, Lucas Raymond has already outscored Lafreniere. And Yzerman sure has hell isn't retaining on Bertuzzi for 2 years he's well worth what he's getting paid now.

I'd rather get Scheifele, Ehlers or Copp than Wheeler

Copp likely costs you a first and a good prospect (not a blue chip, 2nd tier), and I would love to move Wheeler for some prospects to free up cap space for our future contracts, but I doubt they do it because of his captaincy/history with the franchise.

I think Detroit considers it for sure. Maybe not this exact deal but its a good starting point. Depends what they see in laf at this point. Bert has been a monster but i have doubts about them extending him long term.

Wings pass.

Right now Bertuzzi gives Wings 2nd line with Suter and Fabbri. Also Laffy has not played well and maybe Rangers hurt him by having play with big club before he was ready.

Not sure if he will or will not pan out. But Wi gs not the club that wants to take that chance

I am less against this than the other Wings fans. Lafreniere is boom or bust right now. The stats are actually not supporting mikearky or TampaBayLightning22's arguments. Laf has been sheltered to only 5v5 time and is up there with some of the more recent top draft picks right now in 5v5 goals.

If we get Laf, it's to bet on his offensive ceiling being very high. And there is no "available" player with a higher potential ceiling.

That said, I'm not sure I want to move a high caliber player in Bertuzzi to bet on another player's ceiling. Trading for Laf, to me, means trading uncertainties for the uncertainty of Laf, such as draft picks or young players who have had questionable success (Fabbri, Zadina, etc).

Edited Feb. 14, 2022 at 11:11 a.m.. Reason: Missed a player in the deal
Schneider would be a great start, but Winnipeg has no need to move Ehlers, so the remainder doesn't fill enough holes for Winnipeg to do it.

That's a very interesting Bertuzzi offer, I think laf is better than people give him credit for. That said Bertuzzi is playing really good and is a key piece in our team. It could really put the team back a bit by trading him. The second you have there would cover the retention in this scenario but I think you need to add a bit more, maybe like Barron or Pajuniemi or make the pick a first.
