It's certainly not the only wacky thing here, but hahaha HOLY CRAP what is that Bruins trade??? Vancouver is stuck with that awful contract.

Canes pass. Boeser is good, but Canes aren’t selling off their top prospects for someone who hasn’t been able to be consistently healthy over the course of his career. Canes would also be more interested in Garland than Boeser.

    Klingberg wants either 8 x $8,000,000 or 8 x $9,000,000 he's not signing that cheaply.

CBJ passes, they’d rather have 3 good pieces for their future than EP, what is that Boston trade, long term retention is a killer but also OEL has barely any value, Nucks decline the Boeser trade, that’s not enough for Boeser, Morrow’s good but Boeser has more value and Blake’s okay. NJD isn’t going for it yet so the same logic for their rejection as CBJ. Vegas declines, Hague is an important part of their D and they’d rather dump Dadonov with something else. Finally, Klingberg commands more money, Nichuskin less money, I wouldn’t pick Miro or Mintyukov at those places and good luck with the dream of NYR’s 1st ending at 32

The Canucks aren’t trading Hughes or Pettersson. And that Boston trade is horrendous for Van. Taking back bad contracts while also retaining salary for the rest of OELs long contract. The only trades I think Van considers of the bunch is NYR, VGK, and FLA imo

The Boston deal isn’t as bad as it looks. Moore and Wagner are off the books after next year and can be buried in the minors for some cap relief (Boston is already doing that) and Vaakaneinen and Steen are low cost RFAs with potential. The level of salary retention would be the negotiable point of the deal and what buys any draft picks.

Ya the fact that their deals expire next year makes it a bit better, but I still don’t think Rutherford wants all this cap retained on the books for so long when they’re literally looking for flexibility. When your retaining 2 m of a guy like OEL, who now have to find a top 4 guy to replace him for 5m just to break even and replace him while not wasting more cap on a bloated D. Hard to do. I guess that’s not the worst one of the bunch but it’s still not ideal imo

Minnesota passes. It's been made clear our gm has no interest in messing with team chemistry, or trading top prospect along with fact freddy G is seen as 2c by our coaches, and they don't want to play him on 4c

This is the reason why Boston doesnt do it either. Vaakanainen will most likely be an NHLer next year (When Healthy has played a lot and played well) Steen will be pushing again and has looked pretty good with the big club. Moore/Wagner are not really huge cap dumps at this point. No point in bringing in OEL, retention or not. Hes not where he used to be. Rather have Vaakanainen at 1 million.

It's not a bad contract and you clearly haven't noticed the salary retention

VAN is not doing any sort of full blown rebuild.
