My MO was to be realistic and look towards the future while attempting to be modestly competitive in the short-term, which I think this team very well could be.
On the forward lines, I drafted more prospects than many other have. The idea is that in a year or two, a couple could fit into a top-6 role rather than have a team laden with bottom-6 forwards. I could also see a couple being packaged for a Top-6 winger, which this team could need (I don't see Bobby Ryan being made available in the draft, even with the Sens budget issues - they would trade him first). A top-line centre would be great but no one trades those; they would have to hope to find one in the draft this year or next.
In contrast, on the blue-line there are 8, possibly 9, proven NHL D-men on this roster as is. Before the Entry Draft, a couple (e.g. De Haan or McNabb) could be traded for picks/prospects, with an eye to building for the future. The one blue-line exception being Brodin, who would be the closest this team gets to a franchise player.
Goaltending is a toss-up. I think James Reimer in Florida is another target that will get some looks. But Montoya is a proven back-up and a stable hand should Grubauer falter or get injured. Korpisalo could start off in the AHL but will be a better #3 option than almost any other team in the NHL, to be honest.
Overall, as is, this team isn't likely even going to challenge for a playoff spot - but since when was that a goal of any expansion team. But shrewd drafting in the expansion draft followed by trades to flesh out the top forward lines could make a difference in the short term.
