Ok all the people saying CGY won here but then said Habs fans were bias to think they'd get Pelletier and a 1st, you can't have it both ways. The difference between the two is not a lot and if they needed to get closer to that value, it would have been 3rd instead of a 5th. Come on now..... that's the difference between winning or not?

Habs got a little less than the value of Pelletier+1st. They got 1st + Heineman (2nd rounder) + 5th. This is a great deal for both teams.

Habs got exactly what they should have, which was primarily what non Habs fans were saying he's worth prior to this trade. Now that it actually happened, CGY won the trade? Ok. rolling eyes

I'm not trying to take a shot at Habs fans, but I think this is a low value return for a guy who only last season, Habs fans were swooning over as a premium 1st line player.
Toffoli is a good player on a great contract w term and I think the Habs got an ok return considering the circumstances, but I think overall the return was less than what it should have been simply because of how bad this season has been for the Habs.

I imagine Toffoli is going to return to form with Calgary and they will win the trade.

At the end of the day this is what Toffoli is worth

Me + Many other Habs fans figured if Montreal was going to trade him, it would only be for an overpayment. Guess we were wrong.

Even if it’s just a grit grinder dealt, there’s always material to be made.

Looking forward to it.

Been a Toffoli fan for a while now and it's good to see this finally done after being rumoured for so long.

I kind of like that there's additional term on Toffoli's deal given the cost of acquisition; we could've just as easily paid this price for a pure rental. And it could've been either a player who'll command a huge raise next year or veteran who'll want to sign somewhere else in the summer.

BT made the team better now without overly complicating the cap over the next couple of years.

Bad return for MTL.

No way we couldnt keep him at least another season and get the same return at 2023 or 2024 TDL.

This is a yard sale.

This is a list of players that fetched smaller returns than what Montreal got here.

1. Christian Dvorak in September of 2021

2. Sam Reinhart in July of 2021

3. Pavel Buchnevich in July of 2021

4. Viktor Arvidsson in July of 2021

5. Taylor Hall in April of 2021

6. Vincent Trocheck in February of 2020

7. Tyler Toffoli in February of 2020

I know I'm in the minority and I am going to get criticism for this ...

But Kent Hughes did well in his first big trade as GM.

I voted for the Montreal Canadiens.

I saw a tweet a couple of hours ago that said that Toffoli to CGY talks were “heating up”. Usually that means absolutely nothing since the media said that like 3,000 times during the Eichel sweepstakes. I didn’t expect a trade to be made the day of that tweet being made.

Don't think it's a bad deal for Montreal, but I think the winners of this deal are Calgary and Toffoli

This trade doesn't bode well for the Gallagher-for-Braden-Schneider-and-a-first or Chiarot-for-Dylan-Holloway-and-a-first gang.

Instead we play the young players and get a 1st in a deep draft. This works well for both teams.

1st + Holloway for Chiarot is definitely someone trolling. Chiarot will get us a 1st + something small

All the "Toffoli is the winner" comments are incredibly stupid. Outsiders had no idea how Toffoli and his partner loved Montréal.

Edit:

I was meant to be a Hab - Tyler Toffoli

I don't know why you say it's a deep draft. Most players havent developped properly because of games cancellations in the last 2 years.

Again, keeping Toffoli for another season and still getting a 1st in next year's draft would had been way better IMO.

I'm saying it's a deep draft because that's what the analysts are saying.

We get a year+ of not playing a 29 YO in the top 6 and instead playing someone younger who can grow into that role while getting a 1st + a half decent prospect. We aren't competing this year so why would we keep him?

Any source on your analysts?

Playing someone younger ?!?! Who? Why not trade away another winger instead to free a spot ?

So why keep him? To put a team on the ice!

Fair deal IMO.

The Habs turn a free agent signing into a 1st round pick and other pieces. Toffoli will be a very solid add for the Flames.

The loser of this trade is the Canucks.
