I don't think the Canucks would move Hoglander. Especially not for someone like Kapanen who has been traded a bunch already.

I would like to add Kapanen, but not at the expense of Hoglander.

I think this is the first VAN trade I think works out well for both sides, although I do expect some VAN fans to disagree.

What if the pens added a later pick? Say 3rd, 4th, or 5th?

He's been traded because Rutherford was trying to tinker, he traded him to Toronto, then traded to get him back.

It's been reported Halak won't waive.

Hog for Kapanen just doesn't make sense.

Hog has another year of ELC and Kapanen is looking for a raise. Canucks are also better off betting on Hog improving rather than trading for a stop gap

The goalie swap, who really cares I don't think either is really anything to write home about. As far as Kapanen for Hoglander, I think it would be a mistake for VAN

Van isn’t moving Hoglander for a older player and a more expensive one this works for the pens but not Vancouver

There are a few sensible Nucks fans on here, but so many of them are as bad as the delusional TOR fans on here. It's crazy.

I wouldn’t say it’s trash. If Vancouver was in the playoffs come deadline and were to compete, I could see Vancouver making a Hoglander for Kapanen trade cause right now Kappy is an upgrade to Hoglander and GMJR and Allvin are big on Kappy. However since they aren’t, I don’t think they’d do it. Unless they were getting rid of a longer contract they didn’t want closer to Kappy’s cap hit. Maybe like a Pearson, Halak, Hoglander for Kappy, Desmith, and pick. But then again the pens don’t do that cause well Pearson didn’t work last time.

It’s trash for Vancouver good for pens it’s pretty simple Vancouver is retooling and they are trying free up cap space not take on more. The new GM said he wants to clear cap space not take more on

Again that doesn’t make the value trash. I literally just said this trade would make more sense if Vancouver was competing. And Canucks fans wonder why people from other fanbases are such meany heads to them 😂

Agreed. Canucks are downgrading their backup and although Kapanen is better than Hoglander atm, Vancouver is not close to contending yet, so doesn’t make sense to trade away someone who can be as good, if not better than Kapanen.

DeSmith: 3.03 GAA and .901 save percentage
Halak: 2.90 GAA and .902 save percentage

What a huge downgrade lol

This is a good take. I think Canucks fans are really attached to Hoglander, and for good reason. It just doesn’t make sense to trade him rn

Halak was better before the last game he played, I think his sv% dropped significantly.

And since DeSmith has changed his pads he’s been actually really good. I mean they are pretty much a wash. Both are pending UFAs and neither are probably going to be with their current team past this year lol.

The value isn’t trash but the trade is because it only benefits one team

I know, it just brings back to the point that the Canucks won’t be trading Hoglander, although the value for the trade itself is good

I don't think Kapanen holds the value to get a 20yr old playing in his second season already, regardless of whether this makes sense for the teams involved. Kapanen's ice time has been dropping as he's falling out of favor in Pittsburgh and the points aren't there lately.

Pens fans won't like it but I think Dickinson for Kapanen makes a lot more sense. Their ATOI is similar, Dickinson is a year older, dickinson is a really good defensive forward and can PK but is a black hole offensively. Pittsburgh doesn't really need more scoring but they could use a defensively minded forward in the bottom six.
