Imagine trading a boatload for one of the best defencemen in the NHL only to put him on the third pairing for like 20 games.

I pray you get disappointed this is horrific for the future and a marginal upgrade at best on defense.

Klingberg isn't going to Tampa just to be a bottom pairing RD, And besides he wants to go to a team where he can sign a long term deal similar to the Seth Jones deal. And sorry Tampa isn't that team and Detroit will only retain on their own players unless they get great picks and prospects and this isn't it.

True, I think where ever he gets dealt if they can afford him, He wants to sign a long term deal in the $8,000,000 to $9,000,000 range. only problem is that there's no contenders that can afford to pay him that much. he'd have to go to bad teams.

Sure if they can fit him under the cap, they only have 100,000 in cap space good luck with that even Dallas eating 50% and another team the other 50% Tampa still can't afford him.

RD is our "weakness". Cernak and Bogo can't stay healthy and Foote is slower than Maroon.

JK is great PMD and would help us a lot. Just like Shattenkirk did in 19-20 on a pair with Sergy.

Isn't Dallas currently in a playoff position? Why are they trading Klingberg?

They did it last season for a 4th round pick. They would absolutely retain on a deal like this. They don't even have to pay actual money, they sign a bit of paper and get given a pick and a prospect. What logic would be behind saying no?

Klingberg doesn't have a choice in where he goes. He can go to a contender light it up in the post season and up his value for when he hits the open market July 1st.

Yeah but Detroit is already retaining on Panik for this year and next, I don't see Yzerman retaining on another one unless it's Detroit players like Leddy or possibly Greiss
    But then again who know's
