why is CBJ a rebuilding non playoff team trading out 1st round picks.
They aren't.

Pens will want more for Kap.
Maybe if you added Pavs to that they would agree. But they aren't going to move Kap for nothing. They will bring him back next year at a relatively low cap hit and keep at it with a young player. They don't have much risk in that. It's not like his QO is insane for the production he's put forth.

It’s gonna suck next offseason when we only have $16M to re-sign Hintz & fill out over half a dozen other roster spots.
