Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2022
Published: Feb. 16, 2022

Description
Lebrun : Keep an eye on the Rangers and the Habs between now and March 21. I think Montreal covets some Rangers prospects. Habs could fill some Rangers needs. Montreal would rather add prospects over picks. Already have 12 picks for the July draft. Rangers' pipeline drawing Habs interest

MTL looking more for prospects than picks, NYR could still use a 1st for a bigger rental

One or both of those trades could happen.

Why would Ben Chiarot get a B+ prospect?

Interesting deals if you Drop Kravtsov and add Caufield to the Chiarot (negative value) deal.

Because Elliot Friedman dropped a "Sure, he could bring back a 1st" nugget that Habs fans cuddle up to every night before they go to sleep. To be fair, it's been recycled over and over and over again, so many times that it may well come true! And you know what, it could happen! But, it's a pretty dumb move for whoever does it, especially when there are other options that are much better out there.

Kinda like giving up a solid prospect and a 2nd for a defence-only winger, who, by adding him and giving him the raise that he'll get next year through arb, basically handcuffs you into a spot where you a)can't re-sign Strome, and b)are left with Zibby, followed by a black hole down the middle (Where you'd PRAY for some growth from Chytil).

It doesn't make any sense, but who knows!

LeBrun and Friedman have reported it will at least be a first and most likely an additional asset. However MTL prefers prospects

Again-It could happen...But the idea that Ben Chiarot, who every metric available points to being a bottom pairing dman, gets a 1st (+?!?!), which could be in line with Tyler Toffoli, makes me chuckle a ton though. He's not even one of the top 3 LD's on the market right now.

The returns are based on rumors of Lehkonen attracting many teams and Chiarot being moved for a 1st.

I went big with Chiarot-Lundkvist trade, but I still think Lundkvist is most likely a trade chip for this TDL. Rangers should use it on impact players instead, but hey GMs LOVE "big minutes big bodies" D man for playoffs, so who knows.

Lehkonen-Kravstov swap + mid pick going to the Habs seems more realistic to me
